RCR team owner Richard Childress discussed the post-race scuffles, earlier in his racing career, calling it "fun". He also mentioned that NASCAR would fine the drivers today for promoting such acts.
After long hours of racing and intense battling, NASCAR drivers can be quite hot-blooded. This can also result in post-race scuffles, like the one that Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. shared earlier this year. However, sometimes drivers could be doing things for fun, such as getting on top of their cars and contacting another driver on the cool-down lap, things that they could potentially be penalized for.
Despite the nature of these "scuffles," Richard Childress claimed to have enjoyed them during his career. Kevin Harvick, who raced with his team for over a decade, mentioned that he would perform some of these acts as well.
"I did a lot of really dumb things. Yeah, I climbed over cars and things like that," said Harvick on his namesake podcast. "And we were always in the controversy, but I always got the feeling, and I've always wanted to ask you this because I think I'm right, but I'm gonna ask you anyway. I always thought that you enjoyed that part of it."
At the same time, Childress said that he found the funny side of these acts as well. He mentioned that Dale Earnhardt would perform tricks like this, that could get them into trouble, but that didn't happen.
"I lived off of that. I loved it," Childress replied. "It was Earnhardt. I never forget what you're in, may feel pushed him out of the way up at Pocono, and he's screaming on the radio. He's gonna win the race and knock him out of the tunnel. 'Richard, Richard, don't you go over there? Don't you go over there,' but I love that kind of, it just made it more fun back in."
"Today, if you look at somebody wrong, you'll get fined."
Richard Childress reveals why he signed the 2025 NASCAR Charter Agreement
The 2025 NASCAR Charter Agreement was the hot talk around the grid, earlier this year. Teams were silently protesting against the authorities to make necessary changes in the agreement for the 2025 season such as increasing the revenue share, etc.
However, after NASCAR gave the teams a deadline, they reportedly were forced to sign the agreement within the next 12 hours else they could have lost their Charters for the next season.
This was also the reason why Richard Childress had to sign it. He stated that a lot of people's employment was dependent upon the organization.
"We got our Docusign that evening," Childress told Pockrass. "6:37 is when it came in, and we had to sign by 12:00, or we lose our charters. I didn’t have a choice because we had to sign. I got over 400 Employees, OEM in contract, contracts with sponsors, and I gotta take care of my team."
At the same time, other teams like 23XI and Front Row Motorsports had not signed the agreement on the given deadline. They recently also filed an anti-trust lawsuit against NASCAR.
