"Long awaited": Dale Earnhardt Jr. and wife Amy on their decision to start a family

In a 2018 interview, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy opened up about starting a family when asked about how couples spend years together before starting one.

To this, Amy replied(via Autoweek):

"We dated for several years before committing to getting married and we knew we wanted children very soon after. So, for us it doesn’t seem too fast, but long awaited. Plus, we aren’t spring chickens."

Meanwhile, the Kannapolis native Dale Jr. believed he had things to improve on before becoming a father. He said:

"We have been together a good while. I personally had a lot of work to do on myself before I was ready to become a father. I’ve still got work to do. We all do. But it was time for us to start our family. I think we will go off on instinct. We will make mistakes. But hopefully we raise a great kid. I’m certain Amy will have a lot to do with her being amazing and I’ll try not to be too bad of an influence."

The two-time Daytona 500 winner retired full-time after the 2017 NASCAR season and since has shifted his focus to his content company Dirty Mo Media, and the broadcasting booth. He will join the new broadcasting team of Amazon Prime and TNT starting from the 2025 NASCAR season.
