'The Big One' lived up to its name on the Sunday clash at the Yellawood 500 event in Lincoln, Alabama. The chaos on Lap 185 at 2.66-mile asphalt was considered the biggest wreck in the modern-era history of NASCAR.

The red flag was raised after a miscalculated move by Brad Keselowski on the front closing the gap sent Austin Cindric spinning inside the pack and causing a huge 28-car pileup. The massive wreck accumulated several playoff drivers such as Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, Alex Bowman, Daniel Suarez, Chase Briscoe, and Chase Elliott.

A day after Sunday's chaotic race, NASCAR legend Gordon, a six-time Talladega winner, applauded and believed the race lived up to its expectations. Gordon, who is worth $200 million (according to Celebrity Net Worth), wrote:

"What a race! Talladega, you never disappoint."

As a result, the overtime finish at Dega consisted of four playoff drivers in the top 10. Of this, two HMS drivers, William Byron and Kyle Larson claimed P3 and P4 spot, respectively. Meanwhile, Elliott and Bowman got caught up in 'the big one' and finished outside the top 15.

All four Rick Hendrick drivers are above the playoff cutline ahead of the road course race. Moreover, the #24 Chevy driver Byron is in the safest spot and has comfortably advanced to the Round of 8 based on points. The 2021 Cup Series champion Larson is also well above the playoff bubble in the third spot with 52 points.

Ahead of the race at his home track in Charlotte, Byron shared his thoughts on the aftermath of the Talladega race. He said (via hendrickmotorsports.com):

"Today was just a good day all around. We executed like we needed to and maximized as much as we could control. Just a big thanks to everyone on this team and those who support us. It’s awesome to be locked in and take some of the stress off for next week but at the same time I would love to go get a win at my home track."

Furthermore, #5 Larson with a decent cushion in points for the final Round of 12 race had a similar feeling. He said:

"I’m proud of the effort from all of Chevrolet, all the key partners and everybody at Hendrick Motorsports. We had a great Chevy and great power. It’s cool to finally go into the Charlotte ROVAL with a 52-point gap. That race is so (stressful). It’s way more stressful to me than Talladega Superspeedway, so glad to not have to worry about it as much."

The #48 Bowman is also in a marginally better spot than the #9 Elliott with a 26-point buffer from the playoff cutline. The 2020 Cup Series champion Elliott is the only HMS driver on the verge of falling into the playoff bubble. He is placed at the eighth spot, only 13 points above the cutline.
