NASCAR driver Joey Logano shared a past conversation with his wife, Brittany after winning the Las Vegas race.
Driving the No. 22 Ford Mustang, Logano locked himself into the Championship 4 at last Sunday's South Point 400 playoff race of the Round of 8. The Team Penske driver now has the chance to become the first driver to win three NASCAR Cup Series titles since the playoffs started in 2014.
In a conversation with Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass, Logano talked about feeling blessed for this opportunity and a memorable conversation he had with his wife last week.
"I'm just blessed to be in the situation that we're in, right? We were good enough last week to be the next guy to get in, the next team to get in, and we were good enough to do that," Logano said.
"And then, today...my wife, I talked to her and victory lane, she's like, 'Do you believe like, one week ago at like this hour.' I come walking out of our bedroom, and I said, 'You're not going to believe this. You wouldn't believe it.' Here we are, a week later. I told you ain't going to believe this, " he added.
Logano was eliminated from the playoffs last weekend at the Roval. However, after Alex Bowman was disqualified, he got another chance and won his fourth race of the season by 0.662 seconds.
"I didn't really know that it was gonna be the winning call" - Joey Logano's crew chief on fuel strategy
Joey Logano's No. 22 team was not the fastest car but they managed fuel mileage and landed a strong finish.
Crew chief, Paul Wolfe was not sure his decision to keep Logano out during the final green-flag run at Las Vegas Motor Speedway would lead to a win. After the race, Wolfe pointed out that the team needed a good finish to stay in the running for the next race and he did not think his decision was risky.
"I didn't feel like this was a gamble for me. Like, this was because ultimately, a lot of guys had trouble, right...I was just trying to use all the resources I had and the information I had to ultimately just get us the best finish. I didn't really know that it was gonna be the winning call, but I thought it was going to be a call that was gonna maximize points for us, and that's ultimately why I did it," Wolfe said.
Logano also thanked Wolfe, for the great decision during the final laps of the race and revealed his new nickname 'Big Ball Paul'.
