Heading into Homestead, Christopher Bell sits comfortably on the second spot in the playoff standings. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who is considered an underdog by many for the championship, has a healthy advantage of +42 over the other six drivers fighting for a spot in the Championship 4 in Phoenix.

Ahead of this weekend's race at Homestead, a racetrack he won at last year, Christopher Bell was asked for his strategy for the next two weeks between getting maximum points and trying something different.

"I think that’s what we’re planning on (gaining max points). You know, that’s why you’re in the Round of 8, trying to transfer to the Championship 4. You’re never really safe. The three of us William (Byron), Kyle (Larson) and myself have kind of, the way that the cards fell, we’re kind of essentially point racing each other, and the guys below that are far enough below, they’re basically out of the points and essentially racing for wins," Bell said as per Speedway Digest.

The #20 driver added that he'd have a better idea of the picture once he got through Homestead. But for the moment, Bell claimed that he's planning on there being three winners between Kyle Larson, William Byron, and him, as they race for the final spot on the table.

Bell continued:

"But plus 42 (points) sounds great until you realize every time someone wins, that cutline shrinks more, more and more, or that gap to the cutline. You’re never safe and it’s going to be a battle. It’s going to be a battle all the way until the checkered flag at Martinsville and, you know, everybody knows how important those wins are. That goes back to last week and why I felt the way I did."

Christopher Bell is not relying too much on his recent success at Homestead and Phoenix

The final three races of the NASCAR schedule are Homestead, Martinsville, and the big race at Phoenix. Interestingly, Christopher Bell is the only driver who has won the most recent races on two of those three tracks.

Bell won at Homestead last year and at Phoenix this year. But to him, "results of the previous race don’t guarantee anything".

"Every race is a new race, and just because you won this race (Homestead) last year or Phoenix in the spring does not guarantee results by any means and it does not mean that you’re the favorite or whatever," Bell stated.

The JGR underdog claimed that having the recent wins on those two tracks might ensure that he has a good baseline and he's going to be fast. However, Bell mentioned that he expects the running order to be shuffled a bit in the race.

Bell added that he's going to be competitive on those two tracks given his recent history. But the idea of him winning at Homestead and Phoenix because of his recent triumphs is 'false and inaccurate'.
