Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson potentially having a feud in the making after their recent coming together at Nashville was recently talked about on the "Teardown" by Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi. And while addressing this subject, Jordan Bianchi claimed that NASCAR needs this storyline.
Bianchi said that the sport needs two of its biggest names fighting it out on the racetrack. In fact, to Bianchi, this rivalry could be similar to some of the biggest rivalries in the history of NASCAR.
"NASCAR needs this. NASCAR is better when it has great rivalries. You look at the history of NASCAR. It has thrived when you have two drivers competing for wins on the regular. Two of the best competing for the championship and they are slugging it out. Whether it was Petty vs. Pearson or Earnhardt vs. everybody or Earnhardt vs. Gordon in mid 90s, this is the best thing and this is what you need and you've got two of NASCAR's most recognizable names across the spectrum," Bianchi said [at 37:40] (via Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Dirty Mo Media on YouTube)
He said that in Kyle Larson, NASCAR has "arguably the best all-round driver" and in Denny Hamlin, it has a veteran who is "very much embracing the black hat." Bianchi claimed Larson being the fan favorite whereas Hamlin willing to be the villain is exactly what NASCAR needs.
"This is picture perfect. Plus got Chevy vs. Toyota. You've got two of NASCAR's two teams competing for supremacy. This has everything you want, all of the juicy storylines you want, that you look at and say, 'You want to sell NASCAR, you want to make NASCAR resonate with the casual fan or maybe non casual fan? Have these drivers, two great guys, Hall of Famers, all time greats, go at it?' Hell yeah! If you're NASCAR, you're wanting this, you are rooting for this to happen," he added.
Kyle Larson hoping Denny Hamlin would respect him more on the track
Speaking after the race at Nashville, Kyle Larson addressed the idea of sharing a rivalry with Denny Hamlin amid their recent incidents. While Larson refused to give a definitive answer as to what he thought of a potential rivalry, he did claim that this 'rivalry' was intermittent.
Larson said that there are times when Hamlin races him unfairly and there are times when they race each other well. The #5 driver believed that Hamlin must feel the same way too.
"It’s not an ongoing rivalry, but there’s definitely weeks and stretches where it compiles. Hopefully, we can move on from it soon and gonna get a little bit of respect from him," Larson said.
With that said, it'll be interesting to see how it pans out between Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson in the coming weeks.
