Tony Stewart shared an update on his wife's health ahead of the 2025 NHRA season. While Stewart believes Leah Pruett is ready to return to the drag strip, his wife will sit out to take care of their son, Dominic James.
Stewart is a former NASCAR driver who won three championships in the Cup Series. He now competes in the NHRA, including in the Top Fuel class where he is a substitute driver for his wife Leah while she focuses on family planning.
In an exclusive interview with EPARTRADE, Tony Stewart said he will run another Top Fuel campaign this year despite Pruett feeling better after giving birth last November.
"I'm going to be back in the Top Fuel car again next year. Leah has decided she wants to be a mom this first year, and I'll be honest, she is literally just over two weeks from having Dominic and I'm pretty confident in about two to three weeks she would be ready to get back in a Top Fuel car." The 53-year-old racer added:
She absolutely looks amazing. Looking at her, you wouldn't even tell that she delivered a little boy to us so it's just amazing how strong and tough my wife is."
The upcoming season will come on the heels of his rookie season in the NHRA Top Fuel class. During the season finale, Stewart advanced to the semi-finals but eventually lost to Doug Kalitta.
Nevertheless, he earned the Rookie of the Year award.
The Indiana native will be back on the drag strip for the 2025 NHRA season opener at Gainesville Raceway in March.
Tony Stewart made her feelings known about his wife Leah after giving birth
In an interview with NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass, Tony Stewart commended his wife Leah Pruett for a job well done as a mother to their son. He talked about Pruett's decision to step out of the car for a year to focus on family planning.
Stewart said:
"My wife is unbelievable. She's a way tougher woman than I will ever be as a man. To do what she did and to make the decision a year ago to step out of the car and take herself away from what she loves so much to start a family and to go through this journey that's taken a whole year and to see it come to fruition today and to see her go through this process, super proud of her as my wife, my partner, and as a woman in general." Dominic James was born during the 2024 NHRA season finale at the Ponoma Dragstrip in California. Stewart welcomed his son after qualifying on Saturday. He returned to the dragstrip on Sunday for the race.
While Stewart was criticized for becoming a father at age 53, he didn't mind the backlash. The driver acknowledged his age wasn't the ideal time to bear a son but said it was something he talked about with his wife.
