At 19 years old, Joey Logano clinched his first Cup Series race win in the 2009 season. Along with the three-time champion, here's a look at the five youngest race winners in NASCAR.
#5 Glenn 'Fireball' Roberts
Glenn Roberts, popularly known as 'Fireball' Roberts, won his first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race at the age of 21 years, 6 months, and 24 days. Apart from his first Cup Series win at Occoneechee Speedway in the 1952 season, Roberts won 32 other races.
However, in a tragic accident during the 1964 World 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Florida-born racer lost his life in what is described as one of the most horrific car crashes in NASCAR's history.
He suffered serious second and third-degree burns in the crash and later died in hospital after suffering from pneumonia and sepsis.
#4 Donald Thomas
Not much is known about Donald Thomas, apart from the fact that he is the fourth youngest Cup Series race winner. The North Carolina-born NASCAR debuted at the young age of 17 and went on to win his first and only Cup Series race in the 1952 season at the Atlanta-based Lakewood Speedway.
He was just 20 years, 4 months, and 6 days old when he achieved this feat. He passed away at the age of 45 in 1977.
#3 Kyle Busch
The two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch is among the top five youngest race winners in NASCAR. The Las Vegas-born racer was just 20 years, 4 months, and 2 days old when he grabbed his first Cup Series victory in 2005 at the Auto Club Speedway.
The Richard Childress Racing driver maintained a record of winning at least one race per season until the recently concluded 2024 season. Apart from stock car racing, Busch made his debut in the iconic Chili Bowl Nationals dirt racing series this year.
#2 Trevor Bayne
The Knoxville-born Trevor Bayne beat Kyle Busch to become NASCAR's second-youngest Cup Series race winner. He clinched his first-ever victory in the top stock racing series at the age of 20 years and 1 day at one of NASCAR's crown jewel races, the 2011 Daytona 500.
Despite a career run of over a decade and 187 races in the Cup Series, Bayne managed to win just one race. However, what makes his win special is the iconic venue and race.
#1 Joey Logano
As of now, Joey Logano holds the record of the youngest NASCAR Cup Series race winner. The Connecticut-based racer won his first-ever Cup Series race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the 2009 season.
The then Joe Gibbs Racing driver emerged on top in the rain-shortened Lenox Industrial Tools 301 race at the age of 19 years, 1 month, and 4 days. Logano clinched his third drivers' title after a close battle with his teammate and 2023 champion Ryan Blaney at Phoenix Raceway this season.
