Kyle Larson once candidly discussed how his brain struggles to connect with his mouth in a conversation with Danica Patrick. Moreover, the Hendrick Motorsports driver reflected on how he inherited that from his mother.
In 2022, the 2021 Cup Series champion Larson opened up on "more awareness" as one character trait he would like to add to his life and indirectly hinted towards his NASCAR suspension in the first half of the 2020 season, for using a racial slur in an iRacing event. He said:
"I think just having more awareness for what people go through and the things that you say and how it might affect them and as you know I'm not the greatest with words." [30:00 onwards]
After this response, the former NASCAR driver Patrick immediately joined in and recalled an interaction with the #5 Chevy driver and said:
"L [Kyle Larson] has called me bulky. That was fun. One day when you're like, 'You're just, you're just really bulky.'"
To his defense, Larson chimed in and said:
"I meant like strong, it meant as a compliment.."
Moreover, Patrick recalled a moment when Larson called a breakfast dish "too flavourful" and pointed out that what goes in his head and comes out of his doesn't jive well.
Keeping in mind this, Elk Grove, California native said:
"Yeah, I get it. I blame my mom for that. She's worse than I am... You need to spend some time around with my mom and you'd understand why my brain and my mouth don't work together."
In the end, Kyle Larson again reiterated how his intention to say bulky was to compliment Patrick and not offend her.
"It's something I've never experienced before" - Kyle Larson once shared how he felt like Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
In the 2024 NASCAR season, Kyle Larson was in the spotlight for several reasons such as his dominant Cup Series wins and the attempt to perform the Memorial Day Double of Indy500 and Coca-Cola 600 race in 24 hours.
Earlier this season, HMS and Arrow McLaren announced that Larson would return to attempt the historic Indy500-Coke600 Double again next year after he failed to start the NASCAR race after finishing the Indianapolis Motor Speedway race due to uncontrollable weather conditions.
Speaking with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio in October, the 32-year-old revealed how he felt connected to NASCAR figures Danica Patrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr., in terms of fan following this year.
"Yeah, looking forward to doing it again next year and looking forward to feeling that support again. The experience this year from the fan side — it was amazing. It was something like I've never experienced before, you know, just that much support," Larson said.
"And I felt like Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. or Danica [Patrick] or whoever you want to compare me to. It was just the sea of people around me was awesome. So it was cool and I look forward to having it again."
Kyle Larson finished the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series in sixth place in the final drivers' standings and was a top contender to lift the title until he fell out of contention in the Round of 8.
In his 35 starts this season, Larson triumphed in six races and claimed 12 stage wins after leading for 1700 laps.
