Retired NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. once met the dad of soon-to-be NASCAR Hall of Famer Carl Edwards without knowing who the latter's son was. The meeting came about when Earnhardt was a teenager and failed to sneak into an adult club.

The story was brought up on a 2020 episode of "Dale Jr. Download" with former driver Ken Schrader as the guest. Earnhardt, who was 17 at the time, tagged along with Schrader and a few of his friends for a week of racing. After one of the racing nights, Schrader and his friends went to a gentlemen's club in Kansas. Because Earnhardt wasn't old enough, the group tried to sneak him in.

As Earnhardt recalls, it didn't work out.

"A couple people are like, 'They ain't gonna let him in.' Schrader's like, 'They'll let him in.' ... Schrader's like, 'Alright, we're going to form a circle, Jr., you get in the middle. Eyes forward, don't say a word, we're just going to go in. They're never even going to see you.' It didn't work," Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. (5:45 onwards)

After not being allowed in, Earnhardt decided to go back to the group's van they had traveled in. As Earnhardt went to leave, one guy followed him out and suggested they sit in the back of a nearby pickup truck and enjoy some beers together.

"Me and him get the beer cooler, we set in the bed of the pickup truck, we're drinking beer, and we're just watching people come in and out of the parking lot." (6:34 onwards)

Then, while Earnhardt couldn't remember the exact year, he recalled sitting in a drivers' meeting lounge around 2015 when Edwards was sitting nearby with his dad. Earnhardt said Edwards called him over to introduce him to his dad. Unbeknowst to Earnhardt initially, Edwards said his dad was the one he sat on the back of a pickup truck with back in 1991.

"Carl waves me over. He's like, 'Hey, come here.' He's like, 'You know my dad.' I was like, 'No, I don't think so man, how you doing?' He goes, 'Nah, you know him, he says you and him hung out.' I was like, 'What?' He's like, 'Yeah, in the back of a pickup truck in the damn parking lot of a strip club in Topeka, Kansas.' I was like, 'That was you?' Carl Edwards' dad back in 1991. What a small world," Dale Earnhardt Jr. added. (8:03 onwards)
