Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch and his wife, Samantha, got the happiness of a second child after years of fighting with infertility. Busch once shed light on their struggles with infertility and the emotional toll it has taken on them.
The couple who married on New Year's Eve 2010 found themselves going through the physical and emotional roller coaster of infertility for over seven years, experiencing everything from a miscarriage to failed IVF attempts. However, Busch and Smantha were blessed with a baby girl via surrogate on May 10, 2022.
During an interview with “I Am Athlete” in 2021, Kyle Busch reflected on the emotional and physical challenges he and Samantha faced during their struggles with infertility and IVF treatments. Busch said:
“We went to another clinic and went through the egg retrieval process again and that whole thing, which puts you out, three months of, uh, just timing, but we got five healthy, very viable girl embryos to try again through this whole process. It's like, oh great. Okay. We're going to try again. Let down, defeat. Okay. Great. We're going to try again. Let down, defeat. It's like, when does it end?” [56:05]
“It's now week six, and you're supposed to be able to go in and see under an ultrasound whether or not you're pregnant. So we go in week six, the lady's looking around, checking everything out, and she's like, Well, there's a sack there, but there's nothing in it.”
After a series of months in which Samantha failed to develop naturally, the couple went through the first IVF process, which eventually resulted in the birth of their first child, Brexton Locke Busch. Brexton is nine years old and following in his father’s footsteps, competing in junior racing.
Kyle Busch reflects on how to deal mentally with infertility
The Richard Childress Racing driver in the aforementioned interview later explained the process from his own experience and shed light on other couples who may be going through similar infertility ups and downs.
Rather than focusing on controlling the outcome through science, Kyle Busch suggested believing in God because some things are beyond human control. Busch said:
“Like, it's not in our hands. Like, as much as you would think science can have a hold on something, and to be able to figure it out, the Almighty God is way higher than anything else.” [58:56]
