Legacy Motor Club recently announced that Ben Beshore will be the new NASCAR crew chief for Erik Jones and the No. 43 Toyota team. He will also continue working with driver John Hunter Nemechek temporarily, as both move to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024.
Beshore is an experienced NASCAR crew chief who has previously worked with Joe Gibbs Racing. He helped Nemechek achieve seven wins and reach the Championship 4 in the Xfinity Series. Next year, Nemechek will return to the Cup Series for the first time since 2020.
Following his 100th Cup race during the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, 42-year-old Beshore will take over full-time for Dave Elenz at Legacy Motor Club.
Before joining Legacy Motor Club, the Pennsylvania native built his experience in NASCAR by working with smaller teams, followed by a 9-year stint with Joe Gibbs Racing.
He started at Brewco Motorsports as a car chief and engineer. He then moved to Roush Fenway Racing in 2007 and later joined Joe Gibbs Racing in 2014. He served as the race engineer for Kyle Busch at JGR from 2015 to 2018. Afterward, he became crew chief for the No. 18 team in 2021 and contributed to a few wins that season.
Beshore faced suspensions for violations in 2021 and 2022. He returned to the Xfinity Series in December 2022 and worked with Nemechek in the No. 20 car.
Legacy Motor Club's challenging 2024 NASCAR season
Owned by Maury Gallagher and Jimmie Johnson, Legacy Motor Club race in the NASCAR Cup Series with three Toyota Camrys: the full-time No. 42 for John Hunter Nemechek, the No. 43 for Erik Jones, and the part-time No. 84 for Johnson.
The team got their first top-five finish last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The No. 42, No. 43, and No. 84 cars have only finished in the top ten five times. Jones is in 30th place in the standings, while Nemechek is in 34th. Meanwhile, Johnson has not finished better than 28th since he returned to the series.
Dave was the crew chief for the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE for the past three years and had one NASCAR Cup Series win in 2022. Cal Wells III, the CEO of Legacy Motor Club, announced the change and thanked Elenz for his contributions in the recent statement on X.
''LEGACY M.C. and Dave Elenz have parted ways, and the organization would like to thank Dave for his stewardship of the No. 43 over the past three seasons,'' the statement read.
Meanwhile, the No. 42 Cup Series car is left without a crew chief following Beshore's transition to the No. 43 car.
