Who is the only driver to have completed the Triple Crown?

The Triple Crown is the greatest achievement of Motorsports. It is an enduring set of victories that a driver must secure to become a record holder. The difficulty level of Triple Crown is so high that till 2024 only a single driver has ever completed the achievement.

There have been numerous drivers who have attempted the Triple Crown, but to no avail as they couldn’t get the final victory needed to secure the title. Fernando Alonso is the only active driver to have completed two stages of Triple Crown.

The Triple Crown of Motorsports is the achievement of winning the three most prestigious races of the motorsports world. They are the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, the IndyCar Indianapolis 500 and the World Endurance Racing’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. These races have defined the legacy of their respective sports in a historical way.

Triple Crown is an unofficial achievement which celebrates the victory of a driver in these three races. The most difficult part of the Triple Crown is that the three races fall on the same day. Graham Hill is the only driver to have completed a Triple Crown in motorsports.

NASCAR is the pinnacle of stock car racing and the American racing culture. It has a set of races which are regarded as the most important races of the NASCAR calendar. They are known as the “Crown Jewel” races, which are, the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400/ GEICO 500, Southern 500, Coca-Cola 600. However, only a few people know about the Triple Crown of NASCAR.

Only driver to have completed the Triple Crown in NASCAR

The NASCAR Triple Crown were the set of prestigious races that were unofficially grouped together. It was the Daytona 500, Southern 500 and the Coca-Cola 600. These races were the most important in NASCAR before the Talladega 500 race was introduced in 1970. Talladega joined these three races to form the “Crown Jewel” race series. However, until its introduction and assimilation in the Cup Series, the most important races of NASCAR formed the “Triple Crown of NASCAR”.

Similar to world motorsports level, in NASCAR only a single known driver has ever completed the Triple Crown achievement in NASCAR. The Triple Crown of NASCAR was brought home by LeeRoy Yarborough. He became the first driver in the history of NASCAR to bring home victories in the Triple Crown races in the same season. LeeRoy Yarborough completed his Triple Crown in NASCAR in 1969 by winning all three races in the same season, just before the introduction of GEICO 500 (then known as the Alabama 500) which made the achievement into “Crown Jewel” races.
