The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame recently announced its 2025 inductees including two NASCAR stars, Bobby Isaac and Dale Inman.
The former NASCAR driver and crew chief will be honored with other sports figures like Greg Ellis, Nora Lynn Finch, Rollie Geiger, David Gentry, Wendy Palmer, Jimmy Raye, and Miles Wolff. They will be included in the state's exhibit during a ceremony on May 2, 2025, at the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel.
#1 Bobby Isaac
Bobby Isaac, who set a record of 20 poles in one season (1969) that stands to this day, competed in NASCAR between the 1960s and 1970s. He became popular for driving the red No. 71 K&K Insurance Dodge Charger. Most of his victories came at short tracks.
Isaac won the 1970 NASCAR championship with 11 wins, 32 top-five finishes, and 13 poles. He had 37 wins and 48 pope positions over 14 years in the Cup Series.
"Buddy Isaac, a @NASCARHall of Famer (2016) & one of its 50 Greatest Drivers, set records with 19 poles in 1969 & won the 1970 Grand National title. With 37 wins & 48 poles in his career, he remains a legend of the sport," the organization tweeted.
Isaac passed away at the age of 45 in 1977 and has been bestowed with this honor posthumously.
#2 Dale Inman
Dale Inman is one of NASCAR's most successful crew chiefs and mostly worked with Richard Petty at Petty Enterprises during his career. Inman helped Petty win seven championships and 188 races.
He changed the role of crew chief by creating the driver-pit communication system used in NASCAR today. His partnership with Petty led to a series of successes, including a record 27 wins in 1967.
"Level Cross native Dale Inman revolutionized @NASCAR as a crew chief, winning 8 Cup titles (7 with Richard Petty), 193 races & 7 Daytona 500s. A @NASCARHall of Famer, he also co-founded the Victory Junction Gang Camp," the organization tweeted.
Inman was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012.
"Quite an honor" - NASCAR icon Dale Inman on induction into the NC Sports Hall of Fame class of 2025
Dale Inman, 88, spoke about being included in the 61st class at the NC Sports Hall of Fame and said he felt proud to have been with the Petty family for most of their 75 years in racing.
"It's quite an honor. To know that I've been with the Petty family for most of the 75 years they have been in racing is unique. There was a celebration of the 75 years in NASCAR with the family this year and that was nice," Inman said (via journalnow.com).
He also talked about how winning Daytona is important for starting the season strong and remembered the 1969 race where his team won after Bobby Isaac did not pit for gas.
