Lewis Hamilton was born to a mixed-race family. His father is of Grenadian origin, and his mother is a British national. Hamilton spent his earliest years with his mother and half-sisters after his parents had split and went on to join his father at the age of 12. It started with racing radio-controlled cars; he was onto karting by eight. His father also supported him by investing in a go-kart when Hamilton was six and taking on multiple jobs to finance his racing career.

Hamilton quickly became a dominant force in karting, winning many championships, and bringing himself to the attention of McLaren's team principal Ron Dennis, who signed him for the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 1998. Over several years of successful karting, he was to embark upon a professional racing career with this contract that would eventually see him competing in Formula One.

Lewis Hamilton’s Family Background

Lewis Hamilton's parents are Anthony Hamilton and Carmen Larbalestier. His parents got separated at an early age and he had to spend his first 12 years with his mother, after which he moved in with his father and stepmother.

Anthony Hamilton immensely managed his son's career when he started karting. Initially, Anthony worked two jobs to put food on the table so that Lewis had the best possible chances of winning at karting. When Lewis was just three years old, his dad took him out for his first ride in a go-kart. At the age of 8, he provided him with a hand-me-down go-kart, and two years later, Lewis won his first British karting championship. Lewis' parents felt that it was time he shifted to his father's place to better focus on his racing career. This made it an all-inclusive family effort to help young Lewis achieve his dreams. Anthony managed his son's career until 2010 and they parted ways on the professional front, they have never been estranged as good close fatherly figures. Antony helped tutor Lewis into the champion he is today.

Lewis Hamilton's mother is Carmen Larbalestier (now Carmen Lockhart after remarriage). Hamilton spent his early life in Stevenage, England. Hamilton, after his parents divorced when he was only two years old, spent the first 10 years of his life with his mom and her two half-sisters. Despite his parents' divorce, he always remained close to his dad and his mom and also spent happy weekends with his dad, with whom he always kept a close bond. At one point, he expressed interest in having her maiden name, Larbalestier, as part of his surname to show her influence on his life.

Anthony Hamilton eventually remarried, and his new wife, Linda, became Lewis Hamilton's stepmother. Anthony and Linda had another son named Nicolas, who suffers from cerebral palsy. Nicolas is one man who shares the same eagerness to race as his brothers do as well and competes in motorsports. He was always an excellent source of inspiration for Lewis Hamilton, who has often referred to his stepmother as "the best step-mum in the world" as she made him very strong and helped him through.

Lewis Hamilton’s Contract

Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013 after leaving McLaren and soon became a mascot for the revival of Silver Arrows in Formula 1. Several multi-year big-money deals made Lewis Hamilton one of the highest-paid athletes on earth with Mercedes. His contract with the team is multi-year commenced from the 2023 season and is reportedly worth around $50 million and will run till the end of the 2025 season.

Lewis Hamilton will join Ferrari in 2025 on a multi-million dollar deal running for a minimum of three years, and it might go as long as 2027. He is reportedly set to pocket $80 million a year, with possible bonuses and endorsement deals pushing the figure to $100 million annually. It is a pretty fascinating situation as Hamilton last season exercised a release clause in his previous contract with Mercedes. The clause was meant to keep him at the outfit until the end of 2025. This is because he can develop engines in line with the 2026 regulation which will be key for his new team. Hamilton will take Sainz's place at Ferrari and will drive alongside Charles Leclerc.
