Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley is an American professional wrestler and actor signed with AEW. His real name is Jonathan David Good and is best known by his ring name, Dean Ambrose in WWE and Jon Moxley in All Elite Wrestling. He has won world titles in various wrestling promotions including both AEW and WWE. Moxley is the current AEW World Champion in record third reign.

Early Life

Jonathan David Good was born on December 7, 1985 in Cincinnati. He had a rough childhood. Growing up, his favorite wrestler was Bret Hart. He started studying in Amelia High School but dropped it as he wanted to become a wrestler. He then started working in restaurants and industries for minimum wage jobs. He was arrested multiple times for shoplifting. He has stated that he would have most likely become a forest firefighter if not for professional wrestling.

Professional Wrestling Career

Independent Circuit (2004-2011)

Good started working for Les Thatcher in the Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA) promotion as a teenager by selling popcorn and setting up the ring. He wrestled for several independent promotions such as ROH, Dragon Gate, and CZW and made a name for himself before signing with WWE.

WWE

Developmental (2011-2012)

Good signed with WWE in 2011 and started working for their developmental territory. He went by the name Dean Ambrose in WWE. He had a rivalry with Seth Rollins in FCW and lost. Ambrose teased a match with Mick Foley at SummerSlam. However, Mick was not medically cleared and the potential debut was scrapped.

The Shield (2012-2014)

Dean Ambrose made his debut at Survivor Series alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. The trio attacked John Cena and Ryback during their WWE Championship match. The trio declared themselves The Shield and started their rivalry with Team Hell No and Ryback. They faced Team Hell No and Ryback in a TLC match and won. The trio picked up monumental victories by defeating several superstars such as Daniel Bryan, Kane, Ryback and John Cena in a six-man competition. They made their WrestleMania debut and defeated Sheamus, Randy Orton and Big Show.

At Extreme Rules 2013, the trio won the WWE Tag Team and the United States Championship. After a year-long reign, Ambrose lost the title in a battle royal to Sheamus. They took part in Survivor Series where they won and began their feud with CM Punk. They concluded it at TLC, where they lost to Punk in a 3-1 handicapped match. The Shield began their legendary rivalry with The Wyatt Family when they cost them an opportunity inside Elimination Chamber. The trios faced each other at Elimination Chamber, which was won by the Wyatt Family. The trio faced Evolution at Extreme Rules and Payback and won. The Raw after Payback, Seth Rollins turned his back on his shield brothers and aligned himself with the Triple H and Randy Orton.

Solo Run and Various Feuds (2014-2015)

After The Shield was disbanded, Ambrose faced Seth Rollins on various occasions. The rivalry ended at Hell in a Cell when Rollins won due to interference from Bray Wyatt. Ambrose and Bray feuded for the remaining months, and Bray was victorious. Ambrose started a rivalry with Bad News Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship but failed to win the title. After failing to capture the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 31, Ambrose feuded with Luke Harper and won. Ambrose set his sights on the WWE Champion Seth Rollins. They faced each other in a handful of matches before SummerSlam. Ambrose and Reigns teamed up to face The Wyatt Family and lost. At Survivor Series, Ambrose faced Reigns for the vacant WWE Championship and lost. At TLC 2015, Ambrose won his first Intercontinental Championship by defeating Kevin Owens.

Grand Slam Champion (2016-2018)

The feud with Kevin Owens concluded in a Last Man Standing match at Royal Rumble. A few weeks later on Raw, Ambrose dropped the title to Kevin Owens. He faced Triple H at Roadblock for the WWE Championship and lost. Ambrose faced Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, where he lost. He feuded with Chris Jericho and won in an Ambrose Asylum match at Extreme Rules. He won the Money in the Bank contract and cash in on Seth Rollins to become WWE Champion. He was drafted to SmackDown Live and defended his title against Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dolph Ziggler for the next month. At Backlash 2016, Ambrose lost the title to AJ Styles. He failed to reclaim the championship over the next few months.

On SmackDown, Ambrose defeated The Miz for his second Intercontinental Championship. At WrestleMania 33, he defended his title successfully against Baron Corbin. During Superstar Shak Up, Ambrose went to RAW. He lost the title to The Miz at Extreme Rules 2017. Ambrose began his rivalry with The Bar and teamed up with former shield brother, Seth Rollins. The duo defeated The Bar at SummerSlam 2017. The Shield reunited and faced The New Day at Survivor Series, where they emerged victoriously. Dean and Seth dropped the titles before Survivor Series. At TLC, Seth, Dean and Kurt Angle teamed up to face The Miz, The Bar, Braun Strowman and Kane. Ambrose got injured after TLC and got sidelined for 6-8 months.

Return, Feud with Rollins and Departure (2018-2019)

Ambrose returned a week before SummerSlam and aligned with Seth Rollins. The Shield reunited for a brief period before Roman Reign's announced his departure due to leukemia. Dean and Seth faced Dolph and McIntyre for the RAW Tag Team Championships and won. However, Dean turned on Seth and it started their rivalry. Dean won his third Intercontinental Championship at TLC 2018 by defeating Seth Rollins. He lost the title in less than a month to Bobby Lashley. The rumours of Ambrose leaving WWE began. Dean teamed up with The Shield for the last time at Fastlane before he was taken out as a part of a storyline. On 30th April 2019, Dean Ambrose's contract expired.

AEW, NJPW, and Independent Promotions (2019-Present)

NJPW

Good used his former name, Jon Moxley, for various promotions he worked for outside WWE. At the Best of Super Juniors 26 tournament, Jon Moxley won the IWGP United States Championship from Juice Robinson. In October, Moxley dropped the title as he could not defend it. Moxley returned a month later and challenged Lance Archer for the title at Tokyo Dome. At Wrestle Kingdom 14, Jon Moxley won his second IWGP United States Championship. Moxley is the longest-reigning IWGP United States Champion of the company. Moxley lost the title to Archer in a Texas Death Match at Fyter Fest.

GCW

Moxley made his Game Changing Wrestling debut at Bloodsport 3. At GCW's The Art Of War Games, Moxley defeated Matt Cardona to become the new GCW World Champion.

AEW

Debut and Various Feuds (2019-2020)

Moxley debuted at Double or Nothing and viciously attacked Kenny Omega. The two feuded for months and faced each other in an Unsanctioned Lights Out match at Full Gear 2019. After Full Gear, Moxley began his rivalry with Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship.

AEW World Champion (2020-2021)

At Revolution 2020, Jon Moxley defeated Chris Jericho to win the AEW World Championship. Moxley defended his championship against various opponents throughout the year. At Winter is Coming, Jon Moxley lost the title to Kenny Omega who turned heel.

Feud with The Elite (2021)

After losing the title, Moxley renewed his rivalry with Kenny Omega. Moxley lost to Omega at Revolution in an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch. After losing, Moxley turned his attention towards The Young Bucks. Moxley and Eddie Kingston faced The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at Double or Nothing 2021 and lost. Moxley went to rehab due to alcoholism.

Blackpool Combat Club (2022-Present)

Upon returning to AEW, Bryan Danielson asked Moxley to form a tag team but he instead asked for a match. At Revolution, Moxley defeated Danielson and the two brawled after the match only to be interrupted by former mentor William Regal who convinced both superstars to form a tag team. The duo united under the mentorship of William Regal and were branded as "Blackpool Combat Club." Moxley faced Wheeler Yuta in a match and Regal was impressed by him. They recruited Yuta to their club. At the same time, CM Punk, AEW World Champion was out due to injury and Moxley won the eliminator series to face Hiroshi Tanahashi for the interim AEW World Championship.

Moxley defeated Tanahashi. Then, he teamed up with his fellow Blackpool Combat Club members to take on the Jericho Appreciation Society at Dynamite: Blood and Guts. Moxley won the match after Claudio Castagnoli scored the winning fall. He defeated Chris Jericho at Quake at the Lake episode of Dynamite following which Punk made his AEW return. Moxley defeated Punk at the August 24th Dynamite to become the undisputed AEW Champion. He then declared an open challenge for the belt, which was answered by Punk, thus setting up a match at All Out. Punk defeated Moxley at the event making Moxley's title reign the shortest in the history of the belt. Punk was soon relinquished of the title and Moxley won it back for the third time after defeating his stablemate Bryan Danielson in the tournament final. Jon Moxley lost the AEW Championship to MJF at the 2022 Full Gear PPV on 19th November 2022 after being betrayed by William Regal.

Moxley then started feuding against Hangman Page and defeated him in February. He, however, lost to Page at Revolution in a Texas Deathmatch via submission. The Blackpool Combat Club chose Page and The Young Bucks as their target, who reformed The Elite in response, alongside Kenny Omega. The two teams faced in Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing which The Club won. They however lost to The Elite at Blood and Guts in the titular match. The Blackpool Combat Club, then lost to the team of Eddie Kingston in a Stadium Stampede match at All In London. The next week, he defeated Orange Cassidy to win the AEW International Championship, and held the gold for only seventeen days before losing it to Rey Fenix. He was then moved out of programming for a few weeks due to not being medically cleared. Moxley is challenged the AEW International Championship Orange Cassidy at Full Gear but failed to win.

He then partook in the 12-Man AEW Continental Classic tournament where he made to the final but lost to his former friend Eddie Kingston at AEW World's End. At AEW Revolution 2024, Moxley teamed up with Claudio Castagnoli and defeated FTR by technical submission.

Jon Moxley started dating Renee Paquette in 2013. Pro-wrestling fans know her as she is an on-screen media personality in All Elite Wrestling, and became famous for her work as Renee Young in WWE. From 2013 to 2019, both Paquette and Moxley worked in WWE as Young and Dean Ambrose. However, their real-life love was not included in any storyline. The two lived near Las Vegas and married there on April 9, 2017. Paquette gave birth to their daughter, Nora, on June 13, 2021. The two currently live in Moxley's hometown Cincinatti, Ohio.
