Kevon Looney: A Brief Biography

An American professional basketball player, Kevon Grant Looney, was born on February 6, 1996. He is signed with the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association. During college, he played basketball for the UCLA Bruins and later entered the 2015 NBA draft. He was selected as the 30th overall pick by Golden State and has won three championships with the Golden State Warriors. He had a keen interest in basketball from his childhood. Kevon was named the top high school player in the state in 2014. Kevon suffered from an injury in his hips, so he missed most of the playoffs. He finally returned to the court in the 2017-18 season, leading the team to win the third championship in 2022.

Kevon Looney Early Life

Looney was born on February 6, 1996, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He watched his brother, Kevin playing pickup games. In high school, Looney was the most talented player in his high school team. He got many offers from various schools, but colleges already recruited him as a freshman. Kevon averaged 20.9 points per game in high school and was named Player of the Year of the Milwaukee City Conference. He was Hamilton’s best passer and mainly played as a point guard. Kevon participated in many championships and scored well in all of them.

Kevon Looney was admitted to Hamilton High School, Milwaukee to pursue his high school education. He continued his basketball journey and played various matches along with his study. Kevon enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2013. It was a surprise for everyone, even his parents. He was very impressed by the Campus and the city. Golden State Warriors

After suffering an injury in his hip, some TV channels reported that Kevon had undergone surgery and may lose the 2015 NBA draft. Some other teams thought that Kevon could not participate in the NBA draft. But everyone was shocked when the Golden State Warriors selected Kevon Looney as the 30th overall pick. Looney signed a contract with the Warriors on July 8, 2015, and played for their Las Vegas Summer League team. A successful right hip arthroscopy was undertaken to repair a torn labrum.

Kevon Looney was traded to the Santa Cruz Warriors on January 4, 2016. He played various matches against various teams, including the Idaho Stampede and the Dallas Mavericks and scored very well in all the games.

In March, Looney faced a severe problem in his surgically repaired hip as it was sidelined by inflammation. His team finished the regular season with 73 wins. Kevon again underwent arthroscopic surgery on April 22 to repair the torn labrum on his left hip, and eight months later, the same surgery was performed on his right hip. Due to these surgeries, he could not play for nearly 15 months in the 2016 summer league. He gained much weight during this time and came to training camp overweight. Kevon Looney played various games against different teams, including the Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns and Indiana Pacers. During the 2018-19 season, Kevon re-signed with the Warriors. He began the season as a reserve as one of his teammates, Damian Jones, was ruled out after tearing his left pictorial muscle. Looney won several matches against distinct teams like the Atlanta Hawks, the Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers. One of his teammates, Kevin Durant, suffered from a right calf strain, and Looney was called to replace him. He led the team to advance to the Western Conference Finals. He averaged 20.4 minutes and shot 73 per cent in the playoffs.

Nerve Injuries and recent years

After playing for the 2018-19 season, Kevon was traded to the warriors on a three-year deal worth 15 million. He felt some problems in his hamstrings and had tightness in his hamstring. He was diagnosed with neuropathy (a disorder caused by nerve damage). He played for the second season in the NBA, but his game was limited to 20 games during the season. Kevon underwent an injury to repair a core muscle injury on May 19, 2020.

During the 2020-21 season, Looney was a backup player to James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall draft pick. Looney scored 15 rebounds in a win over the Philadelphia 76ers on April 19, 2021. Kevon Looney continued with the Warriors for the 2021-22 season and scored 18 rebounds in his first match against the Cleveland Cavaliers on January 9, 2022.
