Pokemon's success as a franchise can be largely attributed to its iconic character designs. Creatures like Pikachu, Charizard, and Mewtwo have become staples in pop culture due to their interesting or cute designs. Their recognition has even led to these creatures being featured in the popular Super Smash Brothers titles.
While there are some amazing creature designs across the franchise, there are also many questionable ones as well. Given how Game Freak has been redesigning certain creatures in the form of regional variants and convergent evolutions, they have the chance to fix some of their more lackluster creature designs. Here are 10 Pokemon that need this treatment the most.
10 Pokemon in need of a redesign
1) Cloyster

Cloyster's design has been the subject of dirty jokes ever since they changed the way it looks in the first generation. In the original Red and Blue games that released worldwide, Cloyster was oriented horizontally rather than vertically. Reverting this change through a regional variant or otherwise would make the creature a bit more respectable.
2) Dugtrio
Dugtrio and Magneton have been the subject of humor regarding the duality of monster designs in the franchise since the very beginning. Taking three of the base forms and stapling them together is far from interesting, and many go as far as to state that it is laughably bad. Game Freak has had two opportunities to fix this with Alolan Dugtrio and Wugtrio, but they always fail to make any real changes.
3) Magneton
Magneton is very similar to Dugtrio, except Game Freak did Magneton justice by introducing its evolution, Magnezone, in the fourth generation. Nevertheless, Magneton is another example of taking three creatures and stapling them together. However, given that the creature's theme is magnets, it fits the species slightly more than Dugtrio.
4) Greedent
Although one of the newer designs in the franchise, it doesn't quite hit like it should. Skwovet, its pre-evolved form, does a great job of depicting a wild squirrel, but Greedent just doesn't carry on this design philosophy in any way. A bigger squirrel makes sense, but the Homer Simpson facial hair and beer gut make seeing this thing as anything more than a middle-aged man incredibly difficult.
5) Grimmsnarl
Not a soul on the planet would have imagined that Impidimp would evolve into this thing when it first debuted in a promotional livestream. Impidimp and Morgrem had a great idea going with the punk prankster theme, but this was all thrown away for the final stage of the family, with the creature being a giant buff hairy guy instead of a sneaky rouge like many hoped.
6) Palafin
While the concept of Palafin is amazing, the execution was rather sloppy. If Palafin was just the Hero form, it would be great, but unfortunately, it possesses a base or "Zero" form that just takes the appearance of its pre-evolved form with the addition of a heart icon on its chest. This sadly makes Palafin one of the worst of the new designs.
7) Flamigo
Flamigo is another new design to have its fair share of controversy. While many defend it by saying the franchise has its fair share of lazy designs in every generation, Flamigo cannot help but feel underwhelming after the release of Galarian Zapdos, a more interesting concept for a Flying and Fighting-type.
8) Garbodor
Although it is incredibly easy to "trash" on Garbodor and call its design "lazy," it could have really been expanded upon. There was an attempt to do so with the release of Gigantamax Garbodor, which did lean more heavily into the aspects of a trash monster, but the original design just lacks anything interesting. The split garbage bag for a face is a great start, but a body comprised of grey-brown instead of actual debris or real trash does very little to help it.
9) Klinklang
Klinklang is the bare minimum in terms of what qualifies as a creature's evolution. It takes the design of its prior form, Klang, and only adds a metal ring and a new red gear to the base. While Klang itself was far from an inspired design, it had some promise after posing a decent Starmie-like design concept for what it could become.
10) Klefki
The idea of a fairy who wanders the wild stealing people's keys is an interesting one to make a creature out of. With the trickster-like nature it would imply, one would expect a small goblin similar to Impidimp or Sableye, but instead, we got a floating keychain in Klefki. Looking at such a silly design, one cannot help but feel bad for the poor person whose house and car keys flew away one day to be captured by a 10-year-old on their quest to be the region champion.
