Things you should know about Rotom in the Pokemon franchise
1) Rotom may have been a Legendary Pokemon

Rotom debuted in Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Here, Rotom could only be encountered by interacting with a strange TV at the Old Chateau, a haunted house in Eterna Forest. Unlike Drifloon, another overworld encounter with basic creatures, Rotom's encounter is accompanied by the music that plays when encountering a Legendary Pokemon.
With Rotom getting the event in Platinum that introduced its alternate appliance forms, it may be safe to assume that during development, the monster was slated to be more important than the final released version. This could be because the Sinnoh region is already famous for its surplus of Legendaries.
2) Rotom Dex's typing
Rotom's ability to enter various appliances has been used for narrative purposes, integrating the species heavily into the daily lives of humans. One of the original interpretations of Rotom being a character rather than a potential party member was the Rotom Dex. It was a living Pokedex that would give the player tips and could speak human languages.
Rotom Dex could never battle. It only helped players in combat with various stat boosts that could be saved for later use. As such, a lot of fans may not know that in the anime, Rotom Dex was confirmed to be a pure Electric-type. This would make Rotom Dex a creature with no weaknesses as it would be a pure Electric-type with the Levitate ability.
3) Pulseman
Pulseman is another game Ken Sugimori made before working on the Pokemon franchise. There are a lot of references to Pulseman made throughout the series. This Pokemon is a hero with electricity powers, born from the sharing of DNA between a human scientist and the program core of artificial intelligence.
Rotom's design is very similar to Pulseman's, with the two having a pointed head, orange colors, and the ability to enter electronics. Though Pulseman never entered a fridge to blast enemies with Blizzards, he was born in a computer and uses electricity to enhance his movements.
4) Rotom has two unique typings
Rotom's base form is already known for possessing the unique Ghost and Electric typing. With no other creature in the franchise, including the Pokestar Studio props having this combination, it makes it one of the most interesting creatures in the franchise. However, one form of this creature has had two distinct unique type combinations.
In Platinum, where the appliances debuted, Rotom Heat maintained its Electric and Ghost typing unique to its base form. However, in the fifth generation going forward, the appliances received unique secondary typings, with Rotom Heat receiving the Electric and Fire typing. This made Rotom Heat the only creature with two exclusive type combinations.
5) Rotom appliances were Ghost-types
As briefly mentioned previously, the Rotom appliances were all Ghost-types upon their initial debut. However, from the fifth generation onwards, Game Freak introduced special secondary types for each of the forms. This may have been done as a way to make the special moves Rotom learns upon entering an appliance viable in competitive play.
With Rotom Heat and Wash running their special moves whenever they appear in the metagame, it would be safe to assume that this change is working exactly as the developers intended. They also give the creature amazing coverage options, which other Electric-types in the franchise notoriously lack.
