With December 2024 just starting, many Pokemon GO players are looking forward to what is to come. The Dual Destiny season aims to be one of the most beneficial for the hardcore player base with the return of various high-tier Legendary Pokemon, as well as a potential rework for the Unova region Legends.

However, the road to the new year was paved on the many highlights from the previous months. 2024 helped to establish a new type of content to come to Pokemon GO in the new Max Battles, which will be receiving continued support for the foreseeable future. Here are some of the highlights from 2024.

1) Max Battles

Debuting in September of the year, Max Battles was the first instance of Dynamax being showcased in Pokemon GO. These Max Battles serve as a way for players to more easily engage in multiplayer content as challenging these fights requires Max Particles, not Raid Passes.

While there is the unfortunate downside of only other Dynamax Pokemon being allowed to participate in these fights, these types of encounters have become more favorable after Niantic released more Dynamaxes. More Max Battles are also confirmed to be coming to Pokemon GO in the future as well.

2) Pokemon GO Championships

The yearly Pokemon World Championships was held in Honolulu. Like what has become standard with most other Pokemon events, Pokemon GO was also showcased alongside the main series, trading card game, and Pokemon Unite.

This time of year is also big for the Pokemon GO community, as Niantic always gives eager fans some engaging content through events and special researches that can be redeemed during tournament broadcasts. 2024's rendition of the World Championship event even brought a new costumed variant of Pikachu to the mobile game.

3) Wild Area 2024

In the month of November, Niantic released a new type of yearly event to compete with the likes of the GO Tour and GO Fests that have been present for quite some time now. Not only were these large-scale events hosted globally, but there was also an in-person rendition of the event, which took place in Japan.

This event brought many players together and also introduced the community to Toxel and Troxtricity. Origin Dialga and Palkia also made a comeback for this event. New Mighty Pokemon could spawn in the wild, which are stronger, evolved creatures. Safari Balls also came to Pokemon GO during this event, making it easier to catch these stronger monsters.

4) Pokemon GO Fest

Pokemon GO's GO Fest 2024 was themed around the Alola region. The fest brought many Legendary Pokemon and Ultra Beasts to the mobile game. However, the biggest attraction of this event was the introduction of two new Adventure Effects for both fused forms of the Legendary Necrozma.

This event also marked the debut of the Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings forms of Necrozma, which have since become the optimal forms to use for Raid Battles or PvP. Thankfully, these creatures are also set to return during the Dual Destiny season, so players can still get a hold of the helpful Adventure Effects they offer.

Pokemon GO's GO Tour for 2024 was one of the biggest events in the modern era of the popular mobile game. This event introduced the playerbase to Aventure Effects, which would become a pattern later followed by the company for the previously mentioned GO Fest event.

With Adventure Effects, powerful Legendary Pokemon are more useful than ever before. These effects are linked to the creature's signature move, which is why this feature initially launched through Dialga's Roar of Time and Palkia's Spacial Rend. After establishing this new format for these types of monsters, players have always looked forward to the latest news about these yearly events.
