Alternate Forme Pokemon have been present in the series since the first generation, starting with the two distinct variants of Nidoran that changed based on gender. Ever since, this mechanic has grown and developed, now being given to special creatures and some Legendary and Mythical Pokemon.

With Pokemon Legends Z-A on the horizon, the opportunity for more creatures to receive Alternate Formes is back on the table, and speculations are running rampant. Here are five creatures that should receive different variants in the near future.

5 Pokemon that deserve Alternate Formes

1) Xerneas

With Pokemon Legends Z-A revolving around the Kalos region, Xerneas could receive a new form, much like Dialga or Palkia. Xerneas could become influenced by the power of Zygarde, changing its appearance and granting it some kind of Terrain Forme, changing its design to closely resemble its cocoon state, the Tree of Life.

While it is more likely that it will receive a Mega Evolution, a secondary form would introduce the creature to a new playstyle, much like the Altered and Origin Formes of the Sinnoh Legendaries.

2) Yveltal

If Xerneas receives a new appearance through Pokemon Legends Z-A, Yveltal will receive a new form as well. Like how Xerneas is the embodiment of life, Yveltal is the embodiment of death, and its Alternate Forme would likely reflect this. While the Pocket Monster's design is already great, it does little to convey the Pokemon's menacing power.

Like how Xerneas comes from the Tree of Life, Yveltal originates from the Cocoon of Destruction. If Yveltal does not receive a Mega Evolution, it may receive a Terrain Forme from Zygarde's earth-manipulating abilities that may incorporate some design aspects from the stone-like cacoon.

3) Kyurem

Kyurem may already have two Alternate Formes under its belt with Black and White Kyurem, but there is still one version of this Legendary Pokemon we have yet to officially see. In the lore of the Unova region, there was once only one Legendary Pokemon, which was controlled by two brothers.

However, the brothers had different priorities, causing a conflict that split the Legendary Pokemon into three pieces: one resembling truth, one resembling ideals, and the third being made from what remained of the original creature. While Kyurem can currently only fuse with either Zekrom or Reshiram, a form where it fuses with both Legendaries could be added in the future.

4) Archeops

Archeops is arguably one of the most disappointing creatures in the franchise thanks to its Defeatist ability, which reduces its power after being dropped below half of its max HP. Being designed from a dinosaur with limited flying capabilities, it makes sense thematically for this ability to be present.

However, with Generation 5 remakes on the minds of many, this could serve as an opportunity to rework Archeops, changing Defeatist into a form-changing ability, where it would land and lose its Flying typing after reaching half of its health. The critter could then enter a Grounded Forme, exchanging attack for defense or speed.

5) Genesect

While Genesect is never seen in such an appearance in the main series, the creature is seen taking a different form in the movie, where it folds itself in when traveling across long distances. Genesect's hypothetical Travel Forme could see an increase in its speed and defenses in exchange for its high attack and special attack.

Much like Kyurem, the potential for Genesect to receive some sort of Alternate Forme is quite high, as the other Unova Mythical Pokemon all have their own Alternate Formes as well.
