Niantic will host Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1 from December 17, 2024, at 10:00 am to December 22, 2024, at 9:59 am local time. When this event goes live, trainers will get the opportunity to catch the best PvP picks, various costumed creatures, and Shiny Pokemon. The latter, in particular, are highly sought after because of their unique designs, coloring, and details, but most importantly, they are rare finds in this mobile game.
In almost every event that the devs organize in GO, they try to introduce new creatures for trainers to encounter and catch. To add a cherry on top, they decide to present their shiny variations. That being said, we will also get to see the debut of two new Shiny Pokemon as part of Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1.
Five Shiny Pokemon worth encountering in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1
1) Shiny Holiday Attire Dedenne

Shiny Dedenne wearing Holiday Attire will make its introduction at the start of the Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1 event. The regular version of this Pokemon will also be available for the first time.
If players want to add both to their collection, they will have to take down one-star raids featuring Holiday Attire Dedenne. However, the chance of encountering a Shiny one is extremely low.
Counters to defeat Pokemon GO Holiday Attire Dedenne:
- Primal or Shadow Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades
- Mega Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earth Power
- Shadow Excadrill with Mud-Slap and Scorching Sands
- Shadow Rhyperiror with Mud-Slap and Earthquake
- Therian Forme Landorus with Mud Shot and Sandsear Storm
- Nihilego with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
2) Shiny Sandygast
Another debutant to encounter during the run of Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1 is Shiny Sandgast. This one will be available in one-star raids and in the wild. That said, trainers will have to bring this monster down if they want to come across its shiny variation.
Do note that Shiny Sandygast will be challenging to find even when one beats raids. So, unless players get lucky, the best way to obtain this version is to win as many Sandygast battles as possible while keeping an eye out for the creature in the wild.
Counters to beat Pokemon GO Sandygast raids:
- Primal or Shadow Kyogre: Waterfall and Origin Pulse
- Dawn Wings Necrozma: Psycho Cut and Moongeist Beam
- Mega Sceptile: Bullet Seed and Frenzy Plant
- Mega Rayquaza: Dragon Tail and Dragon Ascent
- Mega Tyranitar: Bite and Brutal Swing
- Zarude: Vine Whip and Power Whip

3) Shiny Latios
When participating in different types of Raid Battles at Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1, ensure joining Mega Raids of Mega Latios. Not only will trainers collect Mega Energy for this Pokemon upon winning these battles, they will also be able to catch the Shiny variation of Latios.
Sadly, going solo against Mega Latios is not recommended. Players are advised to challenge this powerhouse with their friends.
Counters to take down Pokemon GO Mega Latios raids:
- Mega Rayquaza: Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe
- Dawn Wings Necrozma: Shadow Claw and Moongeist Beam
- Mega Tyranitar: Bite and Brutal Swing
- Mega Garchomp: Dragon Tail and Outrage
- Origin Forme Dialga: Dragon Breath and Roar of Time
- Mega Gardevoir: Charm and Dazzling Gleam
4) Shiny Undersea Holiday Glaceon
Shiny Glaceon wearing an Undersea Holiday Outfit is arguably the best costumed Pokemon one can find in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1. The attire suits the monster perfectly, increasing its appeal and attractiveness. With Christmas right around the corner, trainers will want to possess a fantastic-looking creature they can show to their friends and family.
Players will have to defeat Undersea Holiday Glaceon's three-star raids to encounter and catch any of this Pokemon's featured versions.
Counters to take on Pokemon GO Undersea Holiday Glaceon raids:
- Dusk Mane Necrozma with Metal Claw and Sunsteel Strike
- Mega Lucario with Force Palm and Aura Sphere
- Mega Blaziken with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
- Shadow Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Beam
- Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat
- Reshiram with Fire Fang and Fusion Flare
5) Shiny Amaura
Shiny Amaura will be available from 7 km Pokemon Eggs in Pokemon GO Holiday Part 1. Therefore, if you have these items in your inventory, please don’t use them recklessly, but wait for the event to go live so that you can get this Shiny Pokemon. However, since many other creatures will also hatch from 7 km eggs, trainers will need to pop as many as possible to find the desired one.
