Ho-Oh is returning to Pokemon GO 5-star Raids, and you can defeat it using super-effective creatures. The overall damage output of these Pocket Monsters can further be boosted by enabling the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) effect, which activates when critters and moves are of the same typing.

In this article, we take a closer look at five super-effective Pocket Monsters to use against Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO raids, GO Battle League, and Gym fights. This list doesn’t prioritize Mega Pokemon as they are essentially useless in the PvP format.

5 Pokemon that are great to use against Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO

1) Rampardos

Rock-type Pokemon and moves can deal significantly more damage to Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO. Rampardos, which is a solo Rock-type critter, is 2.56x more effective against Ho-Oh with its best moveset.

In Raids and Gym fights, your Rampardos should learn Smack Down and Rock Slide. Moreover, you should teach it Smack Down, Rock Slide, and Flamethrower for the GO Battle League. Aside from Smack Down, all other moves are Ho-Oh’s Charged moves.

2) Tyrantrum

Interestingly, Pokemon that share a resemblance with Dinosaur are pretty strong against Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO. Take Tyrantrum, for example. Also known as the Despot Pokemon, the critter is simply unstoppable with its STAB-enabled Rock-type moves.

In the GO Battle League, a maxed-out Tyrantrum must learn Dragon Tail, Meteor Beam, and Crunch. Meanwhile, it should know Rock Throw and Meteor Beam for PvE gameplay, despite having options to master Dragon-type moves. This Pocket Monster is also super-effective against various other Fire-type creatures.

3) Rhyperior

In Pokemon GO's raids and league matches, some Legendaries and powerhouses can’t survive the wrath of Ho-Oh's supernatural power. However, the Pocket Monster fears Rhyperior as it is 2.56x vulnerable to moves of the Rock typing. Moreover, the STAB effect enhances the total damage output of Rhyperior's lethal moves by 1.2x.

To get the best result in the PvE format, make sure your Rhyperior is taught Smack Down and Rock Wrecker. When used in the GO Battle League, teach it Mud-Slap, Breaking Swipe, and Rock Wrecker.

4) Tyranitar

To fight Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO, the Godzila-like Tyranitar is a reliable and powerful option. It is a dual Rock- and Dark-type critter with access to different moves, including the super-effective Smack Down and Stone Edge. These Fast and Charged Attacks use the STAB effect to chip away at the Rainbow Pokemon’s HP.

Opponents often send out Ho-Oh in the Ultra League and Master League of the GO Battle League. In this scenario, you can switch your Pokemon and use Tyranitar.

This Pocket Monster can evolve into Mega Tyranitar, so your opponent will also not stand a chance against you in PvE battles.

5) Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is super-effective against Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO 5-star raids, GO Battle League, and Gym Attack. It is a dual Rock- and Flying-type species.

A high-level Aerodactly that knows Rock Throw as the Fast Attack and Rock Slide as the Charged Attack in a PvE setting is a killer against Ho-Oh. Additionally, when Aerodactly is equipped with Wing Steel, Rock Slide, and Earth Power, it can beat a wide array of Pocket Monsters, including Ho-Oh.

All of these Pocket Monsters, when equipped with the right moves, are highly effective against Ho-Oh in Pokemon GO.
