With 2025 finally upon us, the release of Pokemon Legends Z-A is right around the corner. Despite it being announced nearly a year ago, not much information on the game has been made available, outside of alleged leaks from Game Freak posted across social media.

With this in mind, the only confirmed information we have on Pokemon Legends Z-A is that it will focus on Lumiose City throughout the years, and Mega Evolution will return. The game has tons of potential for fan service, so here are five things Pokemon Legends Z-A could have when it releases.

5 surprising features that could come in Pokemon Legends Z-A

1) Volcanion quest

Volcanion is a Mythical Pokemon that debuted in the sixth generation. Being the first to be released without a special interaction with the world or encounter, it is relatively forgettable among many Pokemon fans. This could be rectified with a proper side quest in Pokemon Legends Z-A.

Legends Arceus granted special side quests for each of the Sinnoh region's Mythical Pokemon, so Volcanion could likely get a similar treatment. Volcanion's availability has been somewhat sparse throughout the franchise as well, making Z-A the perfect way to introduce it to modern players.

2) "Origin" Xerneas and Yveltal

Alternate forms for Dialga and Palkia came out of nowhere in Legends Arceus. Origin Palkia and Dialga were great tie-ins to the established lore, being the form of these respective legendaries in their home realm, much like the already-existing Origin Giratina released in 2008.

Given the theme of Pokemon Legends Z-A, it would be easy for Game Freak to make new forms of Xerneas and Yveltal, the Kalos region's main legendaries, by incorporating nature into their designs as a sort of Zygarde-ification of the two. The two already have undeniable ties to nature, with Xerneas coming from a tree and Yveltal from a cacoon.

3) Berry fields

The Kalos berry fields was an optional side area minigame in Pokemon X and Y where players could manage an orchard of berry trees. Since berries were difficult to find in the region, this gave players a way to obtain powerful ones to assist their teams during competitive play.

This side game had a surprising amount of depth, with different berries producing cross-breeds when planted next to each other. Moreover, wild Pokemon sometimes appeared in the trees. This feature could greatly be expanded upon, as the fields were not too far away from Lumiose City.

4) Gym leader battles

While Pokemon Legends Z-A will focus on Lumiose City, the region as a whole has stuck out to many players thanks to its unique character and environment designs. The best example of this is with the region's eight gym leaders. While their gyms will likely not be explorable locations, the leaders themselves could be incorporated in some way.

In Pokemon X and Y, Lumiose City is home to many cafes, with some even hosting powerful trainers to battle. With this in mind, it would be within reason to assume that this feature will be kept intact for Pokemon Legends Z-A, potentially serving as a way to challenge the Kalos gym leaders.

5) New Zygarde form

Mega Evolution is confirmed to return in Pokemon Legends Z-A, and with Zygarde's form change not being linked to a held item like Sinnoh's legends, it is free to hold a Mega Stone. Piecing all these details together, Zygarde may very well obtain a new form as a Mega Evolution.

This new final form of Zygarde will likely be used by whoever the last boss of the game will be. Players could gain access to Zygarde with this new form after completing a post-game quest, similar to how they could encounter Giratina in Pokemon Legends Arceus.
