Pokemon GO's upcoming in-game season is known as Shared Skies and will take place from June 1 - September 3, 2024. Niantic's initial announcement video for the season didn't give away much information, as it was primarily composed of Pokemon that players have already seen over the past few seasons, including the currently released Ultra Beasts and Mega Rayquaza.
Even though the initial trailer wasn't heavy on details, it never hurts to speculate on some of the additions and changes that fans would love to see, even if they aren't likely in Niantic's overall plans. These aspects of the game may not come to pass or fit the new season's theme, but they'd likely bring a smile to more than one trainer's face.

Five unlikely additions or changes in Pokemon GO Shared Skies that we'd love to see
1) The Arrival of the Galar Region Starters
Since 2019, with the debut of Galarian Weezing, Pokemon GO players have waited patiently for the region's starters Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble to make their way to the title. However, Galar's starters have remained in limbo while Generation IX's Paldea starters were added.
It's unclear as to why exactly the Galar starter trio remains absent in Niantic's mobile game, but since the Paldea region starters are out and no new mainline Pokemon games have introduced more starters, Niantic would certainly win some points if it finally brought the Galar starters into the fold.
2) Addressing the In-Game Avatar Controversy
Pokemon GO's new-look avatars have drawn a large amount of criticism from players. While the backlash has been substantial, Niantic may tune out the criticism and continue pushing forward with in-game avatars as they are. However, there's always the slim chance that Niantic does acknowledge that it didn't handle its new avatars in a way that pleased the player base.
This may be the slimmest of hopes for many fans, but it's likely not too late for in-game avatars to be salvaged or reversed to their original state. But fans may still have hopes that the perceived boondoggle is fixed.
3) The Addition of Type: Null and Silvally
Niantic has had a heavy release schedule in the last few seasons surrounding the Ultra Beasts, extradimensional creatures who are known to invade the world of Pokemon from Ultra Space. While trainers have welcomed certain Ultra Beasts thanks to their battle effectiveness, others have grown tired of the churn of Ultra Beasts and want Niantic to move on to other unique Pokemon.
One way Niantic could signal a shift away from Ultra Beasts is by introducing the legendary Pokemon Type: Null and its evolution Silvally. Type: Null is known as the Ultra Beast Killer in Pokemon lore, and the arrival of it and its evolution that can change forms and elemental types could be a sign that Ultra Beast releases won't carry such a heavy emphasis in the future.
4) The Return of Apex Shadow Lugia/Ho-Oh
Back in 2022, Pokemon GO players were delighted with the arrival of two superpowered versions of Shadow Lugia and Shadow Ho-Oh that would eventually come to be known as Apex Shadow Lugia/Ho-Oh. Due to both Lugia and Ho-Oh's battle capabilities, some fans who missed out on the Apex Shadow Pokemon debuts are hoping they might make a return.
Since the upcoming Pokemon GO season seems to be themed around a "shared sky," could these two supercharged shadow legendaries make a comeback? It may not be likely, but fans certainly wouldn't complain if they did.
5) The Arrival of Paradox Pokemon
As previously noted, Niantic seems pretty intent on focusing on Ultra Beasts, but it has some work to do when it comes to filling out the Paldea region's Pokedex. Although there are several Paldean Pokemon to introduce to the game in general, fans would likely be captivated if Niantic confirmed the arrival of Paradox Pokemon, distant relatives of existing Pokemon from the past/future.
Not only are many Paradox Pokemon considered incredibly powerful, but they likely could be introduced without Niantic needing to introduce the Terastallization battle mechanic from the Generation IX Pokemon games. Even without Terastallization, many Paradox Pokemon would likely be worthy of a team slot in PvE and/or PvP battles.
