While these Medals don't offer much in terms of rewards, you can upgrade their tier to earn bragging rights.
If you want exclusive benefits from Medals, you must focus on Catch Bonus Medals.
The Catch Bonus in Pokemon GO increases your odds of catching a Pokemon if you have worked towards the completion of the Medal about the elemental typing of said Pokemon.
For instance, if you have worked towards increasing the level of the Swimmer Medal, you will have higher odds of catching Water-type Pokemon. The Catch Bonus multipliers are as follows:
Bronze medal: 1.1x
Silver Medal: 1.2x
Gold Medal: 1.3x
Platinum Medal: 1.4x
For dual-type Pokemon, you must add the multipliers for each elemental typing and calculate the average by dividing the result by two.
