Applin Pokémon

Last Modified Jul 14, 2021 03:48 GMT

Coming straight from the newest game in the franchise, Applin is a small, apple-like Pokemon and the resemblance is where the Pokemon gets its name from. While it looks like the popular fruit, an Applin can be as sweet as one as well. With the right moves and stats, an Applin has a lot of potential on your journey in Galar once they evolve.

Pokedex EntryIt spends its entire life inside an apple. It hides from its natural enemies, bird Pokémon, by pretending it's just an apple and nothing more. As soon as it's born, it burrows into an apple. Not only does the apple serve as its food source, but the flavor of the fruit determines its evolution.

Applin Appearance

Applin is a Pokemon where there’s more than meets the eye at first. While it looks like a normal apple at first, you can see where the fruit ends and the Pokemon begins. The apple is it’s body but you can see the “leafs” of the apple are actually Applin’s eyes, followed by its tail behind the apple. Other than that, this Pokemon looks like a traditional apple.

Behavior

Almost as soon as they are born Applin finds a fruit to bury itself into and usually this fruit is an apple, a popular choice for Applins. The apple serves several purposes for the Pokemon: food, shelter, and protection against other Pokemon. Depending on the type of apple the Applin burrowed itself into, it can evolve one of two ways. If the Applin chose a Tart Apple, it will evolve into a Flapple but if it picks a Sweet Apple, it will evolve into an Appletun.

Strengths and Weaknesses

An Applin has the unique situation of being the only Pokemon with a typing of both Grass and Dragon. It means that there are a few potential combos that could arise from this situation. However Applin’s abysmal stats do not make them the best when it comes to battles. The key here is to build your move set and then when your Applin evolves, they can unleash their full potential.

Being a Dragon and Grass Type, Applin is strong against Dragon, Ground, Rock, and Water types but will almost always be knocked out by Fire, Water, Grass, and Flying types.

Shiny Applin

Shiny Applin

A Shiny Applin is one of the best implementations of the shiny system in a while. The main difference between a normal and Shiny Applin is that the Shiny Applin resembles a green apple, rather than the traditional red. To get a Shiny Applin of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild or hatch one from an egg, or find someone willing to trade one.

How to catch Applin in Pokemon Go?

As of this moment Applin is not available to catch in Pokemon Go, however there could be an event where the Pokemon is featured, or will become available through hatching eggs.

Trivia

  1. Like caterpillars, Applin burrow into apples and fruit
  2. Applin is the only Grass Dragon type
  3. Applin has the slowest speed stat of all Dragon types
