Appearance of Articuno
Articuno is a large bird Pokemon with massive wings. Sporting a predominantly blue color palette, Articuno has different shades of blue across its body, with a light blue for its torso and wings, and a more teal-like color for its tail and the crown-like features on its head. The only color that breaks from this scheme is the white on Articuno’s chest.
Behavior of Articuno
Preferring to live in what would be harsh cold for humans, Articuno thrives on freezing landscapes such as snowy mountains. It is known to make itself known to those who find themselves lost in cold regions, and while it may seem like a bad omen, Articuno actually helps them find safety.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Being an Ice and Flying Type, Articuno is unfazed by ground attacks and excels in situations against Grass, and Dragon types. However be wary when encountering Fire, Fighting, and Steel types. Even with the impressive stats Articuno has, some well-placed critical hits can put Articuno out of the fight.
Galarian Articuno
Galarian Articuno seems like a vastly different Pokemon compared to its Kanto counterpart. Even when it comes to typing this version of Articuno is different, Being a Flying Psychic-type, Galarian Articuno has access to a different moveset. One way that Galarian Articuno is similar to a normal Articuno is that both are able to freeze their opponents, albeit in different ways.
Shiny Articuno
Compared to other Shiny variations, Shiny Articuno is rather close to its normal counterpart. The only major difference is that Shiny Articuno is a shade blue lighter. Because of this, some believe that pursuing a Shiny Articuno isn’t worth it, especially considering how hard it is to find an Articuno in the first place.
Shiny Galarian Articuno
In a nod to the Kanto variant of Articuno, Shiny Galarian Articuno has colors mainly focusing on blue. For those who want a more true version, this Shiny Galarain Articuno is perfect. While it may not have ice typing, this Shiny Galarian Articuno sure looks like it.
Best Moveset for Articuno
Roost | Defog |
Freeze Dry | U-Turn |
This moveset is mainly focused on playing the neutral game, while it doesn’t excel in attack or defense, it’s good at getting the battle area in a fresh state should conditions not be in your favor. Roost heals half of Articuno’s HP while removing its Flying-type for the remainder of the turn, making it unable to receive critical damage from types strong against Flying. Defog resets the battlefield of weather and terrain, though this reduces Articuno’s evasion by one. Freeze Dry has a chance to freeze the target and U-Turn allows Articuno to retreat after making this attack.
Future Sight | Recover |
U-Turn | Hurricane |
With Galarian Articuno, this moveset is a bit more offensive, while still having the means to recover should your Pokemon get a heavy blow. Future Sight deals damage two moves after its cast, leading to potential combos. Recover restores half of Articuno’s health, and U-Turn is the same as before. Hurricane has a small chance to confuse the opponent, making them injure themselves.
How to Catch Articuno in Pokemon Go
To catch an Articuno is a tough challenge, as it’s not guaranteed. The only way to catch one for yourself is to be lucky and have a Max Raid near you feature an Articuno, should you have a Max Raid Pass, bring your best Pokemon, as weakening it will not be an easy task. Should you do so, use every berry you have, and have perfect aim, as even then it’s not guaranteed you’ll capture one. But should you be lucky enough, you’ll find Articuno in your team.
