Last Modified Jan 3, 2022 10:24 GMT

Introduced in generation six, with the Pokemon X and Y games, Bergmite is a monotype ice Pokemon. It is the first stage evolution of its two stage evolution line and evolves into Avalugg once it reaches the level threshold. Bergmite is classified by the Pokedex as the “Ice Chunk Pokemon” which is likely a reference to its general design. This guide will showcase Bergmite’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Bergmite.

About Bergmite

As a generation six Pokemon, Bergmite first appeared in the X and Y season of the anime in the episode All Hail the Ice Battlefield!. In this episode, Gym Leader Wulfric uses a Bergmite in his battle against Ash. Bergmite will evolve into Avalugg once it reaches level 37 and does not evolve further. The Pokedex mentions that Bergmite is capable of creating -150 degree Fahrenheit air to blast towards its opponents. It also mentions how they will gather together above the snowy lines of mountains.

Appearance

Bergmite is a small light blue Pokemon that seems to be a living mass of ice. It walks on two icicles shaped like legs and is pointed at the top. At the top of Bergmite’s body it seems more spiked and ridged, compared to its flat bottom-side. Its eyes are yellow with black pupils and there is a spiked piece of ice on top of its forehead. Bergmite is an average sized Pokemon at 3 feet and 3 inches, or 1 meter, tall.

Behavior

Bergmite is a resilient Pokemon in the wild. If its body becomes chipped or broken, it can suck in cold air to establish the ice around its body. The cold air it creates can reach over -150 degrees Fahrenheit, or -100 degrees Celsius. It can also use this air to attack its opponents. They are known to be social Pokemon and will gather together above the snow line of mountains. They can also be found huddled together on the back of an Avalugg.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As the base evolution Pokemon of its evolution line, Bergmite is not a powerful Pokemon. It has a powerful physical defense stat, but the rest of its statline is mediocre. While its physical attack stat can hold up against other base evolution Pokemon, its slow speed stat prevents it from being powerful in battle. As a monotype ice Pokemon, Bergmite takes 2x damage from fighting, rock, steel, and fire type moves. It is immune to no types and will only resist ice type moves.

Best Moveset

As a base evolution Pokemon, Bergmite is typically reserved for the LC (Little Cup) format of competitive play. While Bergmite’s physical stats are powerful for a base evolution Pokemon, it has too many large weaknesses that prevent it from being strong in competitive play. It can perform as a physical defensive Pokemon and force opponents to switch in the best case scenario. With an Eviolite, as a held item, and the Sturdy ability, Bergmite can guarantee that it can be impactful for an extra turn. With this in mind, consider running Avalanche, Recover, Rapid Spin, and Toxic. This set is to ensure that Bergmite is ready for a prolonged battle, or it needs to do as much damage as it can quickly. Sturdy will keep Bergmite alive for a turn. Recover keeps you alive in a good matchup, Rapid Spin keeps it alive against hazards, and Toxic/Avalanche are meant to deal the most damage possible.

How to Catch Bergmite in Pokemon Go?

Unfortunately, Bergmite is not currently available for capture in Pokemon Go. It is likely to be released soon as the developers have released other generation six Pokemon into the game. Until it is released we will not know how many candies it will take to evolve, if it will appear as a raid boss at Pokemon Gyms, or if its pre-evolution hatches from eggs. When Bergmite is released, you can find it spawning at a boosted rate near bodies of water, ski resorts, and glaciers.

Trivia

  1. As of generation eight, Bergmite and Avalugg are the only Pokemon with the Monster and Mineral egg groupings.
  2. The inspiration for Bergmite’s design is based on an iceberg or stalagmite.
  3. The name Bergmite is a combination of iceberg and mite.
