This guide will showcase Bewear’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Bewear.

About Bewear

As a generation seven Pokemon, Bewear first appeared in the Sun and Moon season of the anime with the episode Alola to New Adventure!. This was the first episode of the Sun and Moon season making it a remarkable episode for Bewear to be featured in. It evolves from Stufful when it reaches level 27 and is not known to evolve any further. The Pokedex states that Bewear has incredible strength and a hug from Bewear can often result in a broken spine.

Appearance

Bewear resembles a giant, black and pink bipedal teddy bear that has a white hairband on top of its head. From Bewear’s neck and down, its body is almost entirely black save for its paws and claws while its head is pink with a white snout and hairband. Each of Bewear’s appendages have three claws and its arms have an additional larger pad. Bewear is very tall at 6 feet and 11 inches, or 2.1 meters, tall.

Behavior

Bewear became a recurring character throughout the Sun and Moon series. It seems to have a strong sense of guardianship and will often protect the Team Rocket members from blasting away. While Bewear is friendly, it does not truly understand its strength and will often crush its friends with a bear hug. The Pokedex states that Bewear will often show its affection with a hug that could shatter your bones. Bewear is also depicted as a relaxed Pokemon and will enjoy spending time in a hot spring.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Bewear has a large health pool alongside a powerful physical attack stat. However, its remaining stats are mediocre and it can have a hard time capitalizing on either its physical attack or health. Its ability Fluffy can help give it the resemblance of bulk, but it will take much more damage from fire type moves. As a dual type normal and fighting Pokemon, Bewear takes 2x damage from fighting, flying, psychic, and fairy type moves. It is, however, immune to ghost type moves and will take half damage from rock, bug, and dark type moves.

Best Moveset

Since Bewear’s introduction, it has not made the biggest impact on competitive brackets. It has a hard time utilizing its offensive and defensive capabilities. Nevertheless, if you want to run Bewear in competitive formats, you will want to use an offensive Bewear. Consider running Swords Dance, Double-Edge, Superpower, and Shadow Claw. Swords Dance is great with Bewear’s high base physical attack, Double-Edge benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) while also synergizing with the ability Fluffy, Superpower functions as a type coverage option that also benefits from STAB, and finally Shadow Claw is mainly for type coverage.

How to Catch Bewear in Pokemon Go

Unfortunately, Bewear is not currently available for capture in Pokemon Go. It is likely that the developers will add Bewear in a future update, especially as it was prominently featured as a recurring character in the anime. While some generation seven Pokemon have been added to the game, it seems that Bewear will take a little longer to make its debut in Pokemon Go. Once Bewear is added to the game you can find them spawning more frequently near stadiums, sports centers, gyms, and other recreational areas. Until Bewear is released, we will not know for sure how many candies it will require, and it could be anywhere from 50 to 100 to 400.

Trivia

  1. The inspiration for Bewear’s design likely comes from red pandas crossed with a teddy bear.
  2. The name Bewear is a combination of the words beware and bear.

FAQ

Is Bewear the Strongest Pokemon?

While Bewear is capable of some destructive things, it is far from the strongest Pokemon. In terms of battle capabilities, its physical attack stat is very good, but it is not the highest that a Pokemon can offer. It is also not very balanced throughout its stat distribution so it has a hard time taking advantage of its high health pool or its high physical attack.

What Pokedex Number is Bewear?

Bewear is the 760th Pokemon in the Pokedex. The Pokedex will label every Pokemon with a number typically sequentially with its evolutions. However, Pokemon that were released in a prior generation will gain priority over sequential order with evolutions. Therefore, you can use this number to remind yourself which generation a Pokemon was released in.

Is Bewear a Dark Type Pokemon?

Bewear is not a dark type, it is a dual type fighting and normal type Pokemon, and this type remains the same for its pre-evolution as well. Bewear is immune to ghost type moves and will resist rock, bug, and dark type moves. It will take 2x damage from fighting, flying, psychic, and fairy type moves.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Strong Arm Pokemon”. While Bewear has not had the biggest impact on competitive play, it is a fairly remarkable Pokemon as it became a recurring character throughout the Sun and Moon season of the anime. Even though it may not be at the top of competitive brackets, it is still a powerful Pokemon in its own regard. Reserve a slot for Bewear if you want a normal and fighting type Pokemon with a high health pool and strong physical damage.
