It is the second stage in its two stage evolution line and evolves from Numel once it reaches the level threshold. Appearance
Camerupt is a large orange Pokemon that resembles a camel with two pillars growing out of its back and it has an active volcano in its body. In its mega evolution form, the vents combine into one larger vent. Most of its body is orange, but there are three blue rings on both sides of Camerupt. The stone vents on top of its back and Camerupt’s snout are cream colored with a short stubby tail at the base of its body. Camerupt is a large Pokemon at 6 feet and 3 inches, or 1.9 meters, tall.
Behavior
Camerupt is capable of some destructive things and when it is enraged, it will spew magma all around it. It can be calmed down with water and in the anime, a rampaging Camerupt was quieted down thanks to an Alakazam’s Rain Dance. Camerupt’s body contains magma meaning its body is capable of withstanding over 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The Pokedex mentions how Camerupt has an active volcano in its body. It also states how Camerupt’s volcanoes will erupt every 10 years.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Camerupt has powerful offensive stats but a weak speed stat. It is meant to be used in conjunction with the Trick Room effect to bypass its slow speed. Without the Trick Room effect, Camerupt can easily be knocked out of a fight quickly. While its defensive stats are not particularly weak, it will not survive against an offensive Pokemon. As a dual type fire and ground Pokemon, Camerupt takes 2x damage from ground type moves, and 4x damage from water type moves. It is immune to electric type moves and will resist poison, bug, steel, fire, and fairy type moves.
Best Moveset
In competitive play, you should consider utilizing Mega Camerupt when it is available and if you are interested in using Camerupt. This does make its held item slot reserved for Cameruptite, but the boost in its base stats is well worth the trade off. You can even consider a defensive Camerupt with the Solid Rock ability. Consider running Fire Blast, Earth Power, Stealth Rock, and Toxic/Hidden Power Ice. This set is aimed at slowly whittling down your opponents and using Camerupt’s bulk to outlast your opponents. Select the options that deal the most damage over a longer period of time, and Camerupt will have done its job.

How to Catch Camerupt in Pokemon Go?
If you would like to obtain a Camerupt in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first obtain a Numel and eventually evolve it into Camerupt. Like most final evolutions, its base evolution spawns more commonly in the wild which makes it easier to encounter. You can find Numel spawning in the wild, at a boosted rate, near cities, neighborhoods, residential areas, and other dry areas. Numel can also be hatched from 2 and 5 km eggs, and while Numel has not appeared as a raid boss in the past, you can find Camerupt as a tier three raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. To evolve Numel into Camerupt you will need 50 candies.
Trivia
- Mega Camerupt has the highest base special attack of all the non-legendary ground type Pokemon in the franchise.
- The inspiration for Camerupt’s design is likely based on a Bactrian camel.
- The name Camerupt is a combination of the words camel and erupt.
