Carbink

Last Modified Oct 25, 2021 04:04 GMT

Introduced in generation six, with the Pokemon X and Y games, Carbink is a dual type rock and fairy Pokemon. It is a standalone Pokemon, which means that it does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. Carbink is classified by the Pokedex as the “Jewel Pokemon” which indicates its general design. This guide will showcase Carbink’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Carbink.

About Carbink

While Carbink was introduced in generation six, it appeared in a Pokemon Short titled Diancie - Princess of the Diamond Plain. This short is a precursor to the movie Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. Carbink does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon, however, the Pokedex description of Diancie mentions that a transformation of Carbink results in a Diancie. This transformation is not available through evolving Carbink or as a gameplay mechanic. The Pokedex also mentions that Carbink has slept underground for over hundreds of millions of years.

Appearance

Carbink is a gray, rock-like Pokémon with a conical body and it has a white, fluffy collar that surrounds its small head. This soft collar is used to clean other Carbink and keep their gems sparkling. There are light blue crystals of various shapes and sizes embedded throughout its body. It has bright blue eyes, a light blue crystal on top of its head, and flat diamond-shaped ears. Carbink is tied with Dwebble and Minior as the shortest rock type Pokemon at only 1 foot, or 0.3 meters, tall.

Behavior

Carbink are formed in high temperatures and pressures underground. While they can be found on cave excavations, they can sleep for millions of years. In the wild, Sableye are attracted to Carbink’s gems and Gabite simply wants to eat every rock it comes into contact with.

Luckily, Carbink can defend itself with the gem on its head. The Pokedex mentions their social behavior and the possibility of a kingdom of jewels beneath the surface of the world.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Carbink has phenomenal defensive stats, but it has a weak health pool and a similarly weak offensive line up. However, Carbink has a good defensive typing making it difficult to remove. It can be used as a disruptive defensive Pokemon, or even abuse the move Rest and Sleep Talk. As a dual type rock and fairy Pokemon, Carbink takes 2x damage from ground, steel, water, and grass type moves. It is immune to dragon types and resistant against normal, flying, bug, fire, and dark type moves.

Best Moveset

While Carbink is not rated highly as a powerful Pokemon in competitive play, it is a fairly powerful Pokemon in terms of what it can accomplish. With the move Sturdy, it can guarantee setting up a disruptive move like Stealth Rock even if it would be knocked out normally. It can also be used as a pseudo-offensive Pokemon with moves like Rest and Sleep Talk. Consider running Calm Mind, Moonblast, Rest, and Sleep Talk. Calm Mind will take advantage of Carbink’s naturally high base stats, Moonblast benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Rest will ensure that Carbink has longevity in battle, and Sleep Talk seeks to take advantage of Rest.

How to Catch Carbink in Pokemon Go

Unfortunately, Carbink is not currently available for capture in Pokemon Go. While some generation six Pokemon have been released into the game, Carbink has yet to be released. Until it is released, we will not know for sure if Carbink can hatch from eggs, or if it will appear as a raid boss. However, since Carbink has no evolutions, you can use any candies you obtain to power up Carbink instead of saving for evolution. Once Carbink is released into the game, you can expect to find it spawning in the wild at a boosted rate near quarries, farmlands, parking lots, cities, and hiking trails.

Trivia

  1. Other than legendary Poekmon, Carbink was the only genderless Pokemon to be released in generation six.
  2. The inspiration for Carbink’s design is likely based on the carbuncle.
  3. The name Carbink is a combination of the words carbuncle and tink (to tinkle)

FAQ

Can you evolve Carbink into Diancie?

While the Pokedex descriptions would imply that this is a possible evolution, it is not an implemented game mechanic. You cannot evolve Carbink into Diancie. It is likely this was intended at some point, but was removed in order to maintain the classifications for legendary Pokemon.

Is Carbink a Diancie?

According to the Pokedex, a Carbink undergoing a sudden transformation can result in a Diancie. This would imply that Carbink is a pre-evolution of Diancie, but this is not a possible evolution and the two Pokemon are not tied in an evolution line. In terms of a lore perspective, it could be argued that Carbink can turn into Diancie, but in a gameplay perspective, Carbink is not a Diancie.

What does Carbink evolve into?

Carbink is a standalone Pokemon, it does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. There is some confusion around Carbink’s lack of an evolution line considering the Pokedex mentions that it could transform into Diancie suddenly. However, Carbink in game does not have any possible pre-evolutions or final evolutions.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Jewel Pokemon”. While Carbink has not had the biggest impact on competitive play, it is by no means a weak Pokemon. It is somewhat frail because of its low health pool, but it has phenomenal defensive stats and can survive some surprising hits. Reserve a slot on your team for Carbink if you want a defensive, dual type rock and fairy Pokemon.
