Celesteela Pokémon

Last Modified Aug 2, 2021 09:31 GMT

Celesteela is one of the Ultra Beasts found in the post-game adventure of Generation VII and is known by the code name UB-04 Blaster. It is a steel and flying-type Pokemon that resembles a vaguely humanoid Pokemon and is a cross between a space shuttle and a bamboo shoot. As an Ultra Beast, Celesteela can be caught after the events of the main game when the player is asked to assist the International Police, who have tracked Ultra Beasts under a secret division known as the UB Task Force. This is because the first reported sighting of Celeesta occurs after the incident at Aether Paradise where President Lusamine forced Cosmog to create an Ultra Wormhole in order to travel to Ultra Space. Celesteela is the fourth Ultra Beast that the player is instructed to catch but while the Ultra Beasts are not Legendary Pokemons, they share characteristics with Legendary Pokemon. That is as they all have unknown genders, they are in the Undiscovered egg group, they are scripted encounters, they have special battle music, they have at least three IVs of 31 and they have special Rotom Pokedex pages.

Appearance

Celesteela is a vaguely humanoid Ultra Beast with a bodily construction resembling a cross between a space shuttle and a bamboo shoot. Its head is small and white with a tiny mouth and a skinny neck with three segments and on the top of its head is a gray structure that resembles a hat. It has long, flowing hair underneath that which reaches halfway down its body and is rimmed with bright blue. Celesteela’s "hat" has two small blue dots and four white spikes arranged in an X-shape, with the spikes resembling decorative hair sticks due to their placement. The very top of its hat has a long gray horn resembling a drill bit and it has disembodied gray arms that resemble bamboo stalks. The end of each arm has a ring of bright blue, fin-like projections and a collection of eight smaller, black bamboo shoots and each of these smaller stalks has a bright blue ring with a small line extending back up the stalk. Celesteela’s main body is conical and resembles a dress with four overlapping layers: the shortest and outermost layer appears metallic and the inner layers are each a lighter shade of green and progressively longer, with an appearance suggesting the material to be cloth or plant materia. Underneath all of these layers is a white body covered with a light gray crisscross pattern and a bright blue ring along the base. Underneath the dress is what appears to be a collection of eight black bamboo stalks with the bottom of each stalk being decorated by a bright blue ring with a small line extending back up the stalk. These bright blue rings with small lines extending back up the stalk cause the stalks to also resemble solid rocket boosters.

Behavior

As an Ultra Beast, Celesteela is known to possess power that transcends humans' understanding of the world due to its origins in Ultra Space. Like other Ultra Beasts, they are drawn to people who have passed through an Ultra Wormhole, due to the residual wormhole energy that these people possess. Ultra Beasts tend to be combative due to their entrance into Alola being unexpected for the Ultra Beasts themselves. Celesteela’s most distinctive feature is the energy that it stores within itself in order to form a flammable gas that it can shoot from its two huge arms. This flame is mostly used to propel itself in flight and for battle, and it is thought to have sufficient power and lift to allow Celesteela to fly into space. Not only that, its rocket thrust is powerful enough to destroy an entire bamboo forest. Celesteela's body is plantlike and can absorb nutrients from the sun despite it being a steel-type. Furthermore, Celesteela can have a long lifespan, as one was buried in Alola for over 200 years in the Pokemon anime.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As an Ultra Beast, Celesteela has high stats resembling those of a legendary Pokemon, with well balanced high stats except for its speed stat, which is relatively low. It is a defensive Pokemon in the tier, with a fantastic typing, well-rounded stats, and a large movepool. As a steel and flying-type, Celesteela is weak to fire and electric-types, immune to poison and ground-types, and resistant to normal, flying, bug, steel, grass, psychic, dragon, and fairy-types.

Best moveset

Celesteela is a defensive Pokemon in the tier, with a fantastic typing, well-rounded stats, and a large movepool. Leech Seed allows Celesteela to heal when up against non grass-types and counter switch-ins, Protect allows it to sometimes survive an opponent’s attack. Both Heavy Slam and Flamethrower, on the other hand, serve as STAB (same-type attack bonus) moves with the former, Celesteela's strongest STAB move.

Trivia

  1. In Pokemon Sun and Moon, Celesteela has a catch rate of 25 and a base experience yield of 114.
  2. Celesteela is tied with Cosmoem as the heaviest Pokemon.
  3. Celesteela is likely based on Princess Kaguya from The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, since its body resembles bamboo shoots, its arms resemble cut bamboo trunks, and overall it resembles the depiction of Princess Kaguya as a woman with long hair wearing a multilayered kimono.
  4. Celesteela may also incorporate similarities to the spacecraft SELENE (nicknamed "Kaguya" in Japan), which orbited the Moon from 2007 and 2009.
  5. The combination of bamboo and spacecraft elements in Celesteela’s design may be a reference to bamboo rockets.
  6. Celesteela may be a combination of celestial (positioned in or relating to the sky or outer space), steel, and stella (Latin and Italian for star).
  7. The base stats of the Ultra Beasts, and the levels at which they learn moves (except level 1) are all prime numbers and all Ultra Beasts except Poipole and Naganadel have a base stat total of 570
  8. The Ultra Beasts, along with the light trio (plus their pre-evolved forms Cosmog and Cosmoem), all share a unique sound frequency found within or after their cries, which is approximately 1.250 seconds in duration.
  9. The Ultra Beasts are based on the idea of invasive species, according to Shigeru Ohmori in an interview in Pokemon Sun & Pokemon Moon: The Official Alola Region Pokedex & Postgame Adventure Guide.
  10. According to Pokemon Daisuki Club's Mystery File feature website, some researchers theorize that the Pokemon Unown may be related to Ultra Beasts
