Introduced in generation three, with the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games, Chimecho is a monotype psychic Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Chingling and evolves when it is leveled up with high enough friendship at night. Appearance
Chimecho is a small, round, wind chime-shaped Pokemon and is specifically shaped like a furin wind chime. There is a long red and white tassel that flows out from the bottom of Chimecho’s body. On top of Chimecho’s head is a yellow, goblet shaped ornament. It also has small stubby limbs but it seems to move through psychic powers and can lift things with its mind. Chimecho is a small Pokemon at only 2 feet, or 0.6 meters, tall.
Behavior
In the anime, Chimecho was shown to be a sensitive Pokemon. While it was under James’s care, it became sick and James had to leave his Chimecho with his parents to recover from illness. It was never used in battle by James because he cared for it so deeply. The Pokedex mentions that Chimecho will cry as it hangs from a tree branch during high winds. It also mentions that Chimecho have seven distinct cries that they use to communicate with one another.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Chimecho is not particularly powerful in terms of base stats. Its best stat is its special attack, although its speed stat does not allow it to be too successful as an offensive Pokemon. Chimecho is best used as a supportive Pokemon as it can learn multiple different healing moves. As a monotype psychic Poekmon, Chimeco takes 2x damage from bug, ghost, and dark type moves. It is immune to ground types thanks to its Levitate ability, and is resistant against fighting and psychic type moves.
Best Moveset
Unfortunately, Chimecho is not the best choice for a competitive team. It is ranked lowly on competitive tier lists and its weak base stats make it difficult for Chimecho to succeed. It can be used as a supportive Pokemon that can disrupt your opponent and heal your own. Consider running Healing Wish, Recover, Psychic, and Heal Bell/Thunder Wave/Taunt. Healing Wish is used to make another Pokemon on your team fully healthy, Recover can sustain Chimecho in battle, Psychic benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), and Heal Bell/Thunder Wave/Taunt are all interchangeable depending on defensive, disabling, or disruptive you want to be.

How to Catch Chimecho in Pokemon Go
If you would like to obtain a Chimecho in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first obtain a Chingling and eventually evolve it. Normally, fully evolved Pokemon are more rare to encounter than its base evolution. However, Chingling is unique as you cannot find Chingling in the wild because it can only be hatched from an egg. You can hatch a Chingling from 2, 5, and 7 km eggs but you can find Chimecho in the wild. It spawns, at a boosted rate, near residential areas at night time, hospitals, and grassy areas. Chimecho is also unique as you can hatch Chimecho from 2 or 10 km eggs. Furthermore, while Chingling has not appeared as a raid boss, you can find Chimecho as a tier one raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. You will need 50 candies to evolve Chingling into Chimecho.
Trivia
- Chimecho has the last index number of all the generation three Pokemon.
- The inspiration for Chimecho’s design is likely based on Japanese glass wind bells known as furin.
- The name Chimecho is a combination of the words chime and echo.

FAQ
Is Chimecho a rare Pokemon?
While Chimecho is the final evolution of its two stage evolution line, it is actually more rare to find Chingling than a Chimecho. This is because Chingling can typically only be obtained through breeding Chimecho at a Pokemon Daycare while it is holding a Pure Incense held item. Despite this, Chimecho is still a rare encounter at around 2% where it spawns naturally.
How does Chimecho evolve?
Chimecho is the final evolution of its two stage evolution line. It does not evolve further. However, its pre-evolution can typically only be accessed by breeding Chimecho at a Pokemon Daycare while it is holding a Pure Incense held item. To evolve Chingling into Chimecho you will need to level up Chingling when its friendship level is high enough during the night.
Is Chimecho a good Pokemon?
Chimecho is able to learn many different supporting moves, but it is not particularly powerful itself. It has the ability to fully heal a Pokemon by sacrificing itself through the move Healing Wish. This could potentially double the value of a Pokemon’s defensive or offensive capabilities, but it can be difficult to set up.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Wind Chime Pokemon”. While Chimecho has not had the biggest impact on competitive play, it is still a unique Pokemon. Its supportive capabilities and unique evolution line make it stand out from other Pokemon in the franchise. Unfortunately its base stats are somewhat weak as a result. Reserve a slot on your team for Chimecho if you want a supportive psychic type Pokemon.
