Appearance of Clefairy
Clefairy is a vaguely star-shaped Pokemon with two one-toed feet and a small tooth that protrudes from the upper left corner of its mouth. Clefairy has a pink and chubby body with a dark pink oval marking on each cheek and slight wrinkles on the outside of its small oval eyes. Clefairy has a tuft of curled fur between two large, pointed ears with brown tips that resemble its upward-curling tail. It has two short stocky arms with two small claws and a thumb on each hand. Though it is incapable of flight, Clefairy has two wings resembling butterfly wings that can absorb moonlight. Clefairy is shown to have a secretion from the back of their throat that can harden into a crystal-like form within the manga.
Behavior of Clefairy
Clefairy is known to be shy, one of the main reasons for its believed rareness. Clefairy lives in the mountains, a home from which it rarely leaves. When it does leave, Clefairy dances under the full moon, enveloping the surrounding area in a magnetic field, since the moon is the source of Clefairy’s power. From its appearances in the anime, Clefairy is shown to be an extraterrestrial Pokemon, being first encountered by Ash after its spacecraft crash-landed nearby Viridian City.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Clefairy has a high HP stat and higher than average special attack and special defense stats. Before the introduction of Fairy-type Pokemon, Clefairy was a normal-type Pokemon, making it weak to fighting-type Pokemon and immune to ghost-type Pokemon. After the introduction of Fairy-type Pokemon in Generation VI, Clefairy becomes a fairy-type Pokemon and is thus super effective against fighting, dark, and dragon-type Pokemon and is weak to poison and steel-type Pokemon.
Best moveset
Calm Mind increases Clefairy’s higher than average special attack and special defense stats giving it an easier time taking special attack damage. Soft-Boiled heals 50% of Clefairy’s HP, allowing Clefairy to switch into battle with special attackers with less fear of being knocked out. Moonblast serves as an effective STAB (same-type attack bonus) move for Clefairy to cause damage with. Finally, Thunder Wave can cripple opponents by paralyzing them, serving as speed control.
