Appearance
Crustle is based on a Hermit crab and while the base of this Pokemon itself is primarily orange, its shell is a rock, which is brown with darker and lighter patches. It peeks from inside the shell with its two claws out in the front. The claws extend from inside the shell and are orange until the tip, where it is brown. It has three legs on either side, a total of six.
Behavior
Crustle are not friendly to each other and are very territorial creatures. They are also very sensitive about their strength. These Pokemon have disputes over territories and then fight each other. The winner of the fight is decided by whoever loses their shell first. Upon the boulder breaking, the Crustle starts spiralling and then weakens due to lack of confidence. However, its strength is not to be undermined as despite having tiny legs, they are incredibly strong. They can carry these boulders without a break for days at a time and their claws are strong enough to crack Rhyperior’s carapace.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Crustle is a Bug/Rock type and is weak to Rock, Steel and Water type moves, taking twice the normal damage from them. On the other hand, it is resistant to Normal and Poison type moves, and takes only half the normal damage. However, it has no immunities and thus has no type advantages or disadvantages against any other types.
Best moveset
Crustle is incredible at setting up the arena for the upcoming Pokemon while still being able to deal damage. While Pokemon like Ferrothorn have problems like limited damaging abilities and weakness to fire, it can be a reliable alternative. Stealth Rock is a rock type move that persists on the field and damages according to type advantages.
This means that if a Charizard switches in, it could lose half of its health on the spot. Spikes lay spikes on the ground, damaging any Pokemon that steps on it. This can be applied upto three times, so make sure that you utilize it to its maximum potential. Knock Off, while being a powerful move, is also a powerful support. It removes the items held by the opponent, making them less effective. Finally, Rock Blast is your STAB damaging move. Use this to stall out while you wait for this Pokemon to faint to switch without damage. It is also effective against Flying type Pokemon that use defog to clear Stealth Rock and Spikes.
Stealth Rock | Spikes |
Knock Off | Rock Blast |
How to catch Crustle in Pokemon Go?
As of now, it is impossible to find Crustle in the wild in Pokemon Go. The only way to obtain a Crustle is by capturing a Dwebble and then evolving it into Crustle using 50 candies. Dwebble can be found in the wild and gets a boost when it is partly cloudy or rainy. Alternatively, it can be found in 2 KM and 5 KM eggs and in Tier One raid battles as well. Crustle has, however, never appeared as a raid boss in Pokemon Go. On the other hand, Dwebble appeared as a raid boss multiple times. It appeared on 24th and 28th January, 2nd, 17th and 24th March, 26th June, 14th August, and 18th September of 2020, all as a Tier 1 raid boss. It also appeared on 5th January, 2021 as a Tier 1 raid boss as well.
Trivia
- Crustle and Dwebble are the only Pokemon that belong to the Bug and Mineral egg group.
- The shell on Crustle’s back is not an extension of the Pokemon and can be removed with ease.
