Appearance
Dhelmise looks like a combination of a ship’s wheel and an anchor. It has a rather rusted and broken design and appears to be covered in seaweed as well. There is one eye at the edge of the ship’s wheel, which resembles a compass, and the other eye seems to be cracked. Most of its body is blue with yellow trimming, but there are also spots of brown to indicate rust. Dhelmise is a massive Pokemon at 12 feet and 10 inches, or 3.9 meters, tall.
Behavior
Throughout the anime, Dhelmise has only appeared once throughout the series and its role was to defend a Mystic Water item. It seems to protect the treasure that lies within shipwrecks and its massive anchor can act as a deterrent to any intruders. The Pokedex states that Dhelmise is a carnivorous Pokemon and tends to favor hunting large Pokemon like Wailord. The green seaweed around its anchor is actually part of its body and it will use this seaweed to drain the life force out of its captured prey.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Dhelmise has a powerful physical attack, a strong physical and special defense but its health pool is on the low side. Its speed stat is also very low which makes it difficult to take advantage of its high physical attack. It also comes with one ability, Steelworker which can provide more type coverage beyond its grass and ghost typing. As a ghost and grass type, Dhelmise takes 2x damage from flying, ghost, fire, ice, and dark type moves. It is immune to normal and fighting type moves and resistant against ground, water, grass, and electric type moves.
Best Moveset
Dhelmise is somewhat unwieldy in competitive play as its natural stat distribution makes it difficult to succeed in a particular role. Typically it will be used for its large type coverage as well as providing a little utility. Consider running Power Whip, Anchor Shot, Rapid Spin, and Synthesis. Power Whip benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Anchor Shot synergizes with its only ability Steelworker while Rapid Spin is a good move as it will remove hazards from your side of the field. Synthesis, on the other hand, can take advantage of Dhelmise’s naturally high physical defense.

How to Catch Dhelmise in Pokemon Go
Unfortunately, Dhelmise is not currently available in Pokemon Go. While some generation seven and even generation eight Pokemon have managed to make it into this mobile game, Dhelmise has not yet been released. As a ghost and grass type Pokemon, you can expect to see it spawn near grassy areas and at night time once it is released. Since it is a standalone Pokemon, you do not need to worry about obtaining enough candies to evolve it and you can save all of them to power up your Dhelmise. Until Dhelmise is released, we will not know for sure the methods of obtaining this Pokemon, but it is likely it will be available through events, hatching eggs and as well as wild encounters.
Trivia
- Dhelmise is the only Pokemon in the entire franchise to have a base stat total of 517.
- The inspiration for Dhelmise’s design likely comes from a cluster of seaweed holding together an anchor and the helm of a ship.
- The name Dhelmise is a combination of the words demise and helm.

FAQ
Is Dhelmise a good Pokemon?
While Dhelmise is not particularly powerful in competitive play, it can function well in casual play. Its natural base stat totals are quite high, even for a standalone Pokemon, and it can function as a defensive Pokemon. While it is slow, Dhelmise is capable of taking hits and dealing damage itself which makes it a decent choice for any team in casual play.
What is the evolved form of Dhelmise?
Dhelmise is the only Pokemon in its evolution line as there are no pre-evolutions to Dhelmise and it has no final evolution. Once you have obtained a Dhelmise, you do not need to worry about fulfilling any particular conditions for evolution. The only investments to concern yourself over Dhelmise include its moveset and leveling it up.
How do you catch a Dhelmise?
Dhelmise can be encountered in Seafolk Village in generation seven by fishing. In Sword and Shield, you can find it on Route 9, Dappled Grove, Bridge Field, Stony Wilderness, Giant’s Mirror, Challenge Beach, and Frigid Sea. Once you have encountered this Pokemon, you just have to weaken it enough and inflict a non-damaging status effect to have the best chance of capturing it with Pokeballs.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Sea Creeper Pokemon”. While Dhelmise is not the most impactful Pokemon in competitive play, it is not a weak Pokemon by any means. Even though it may not hit first, it still has high defensive stats, a powerful physical attack, and a wide range of moves that can deal extra damage. Reserve a slot on your team for Dhelmise if you want a ghost and grass type Pokemon that can deal damage while also taking damage itself.
