Introduced in generation six, with the Pokemon X and Y games, Diancie is a dual type rock and fairy Pokemon. It is a mythical, legendary Pokemon and is not known to evolve from or into any other Pokemon. Diancie is classified as the “Jewel Pokemon” indicating its gem-like qualities. This guide will showcase Diancie’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in Pokemon media, as well as other general facts about Diancie.
About Diancie
As a mythical and legendary Pokemon, Diancie first appeared in a starring role in the Pokemon short, Diancie - Princess of the Diamond Domain. This animated short set the stage for the official Pokemon movie Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. Like most legendary Pokemon, Diancie is a standalone Pokemon in its evolution line, however, the Pokedex mentions its origins as Carbink. This connection is only through lore and not through gameplay mechanics.

Appearance
Diancie is a small Pokemon with vague humanoid resemblance while the gems on its head resemble a headdress and the conical rock on its bottom half appears to be a dress. Diancie’s head and arms are a dark gray, its dress is white, and the gems on its head and neck are pink. It also has a mega evolution where its dress is made entirely of gems and the two gems pointing downwards become more ribbon-like.
Behavior
In Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, Diancie is shown to hold typical princess-like characteristics. It depicted formal manners, had a friendly and formal tone of voice, and showed a high degree of generosity. It was also shown that Diancie was quite sensitive and showcased some reluctance towards its responsibilities as a princess.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Diancie’s biggest weakness falls to its health and speed stats while all of its other stats are phenomenal, especially its defensive stats. However, it is difficult to utilize its high resilience without a decent health pool to back it up. Luckily, Mega Diancie’s resistances convert into its offensive statline which makes it a far bigger threat. As a dual type rock and fairy Pokemon, Diancie is 2x weak to ground, water, and grass types while being 4x weak to steel. Thanks to its fairy typing, it is immune to dragon type moves and also resists normal, flying, bug, fire, and dark type moves.
Best Moveset
As a legendary Pokemon, with access to a mega evolution, Diancie manages to fit quite well into the top tiers of competitive play. Mega Diancie’s only true weakness is its lack of a strong health pool which makes it more of a glass cannon. With the Clear Body ability, it can be difficult to slow down a Mega Diancie and thus consider running Stealth Rock/Protect, Moonblast, Diamond Storm/Protect, and Earth Power to succeed. Stealth Rock is good to add some chip damage to your opponent’s team, Moonblast and Diamond Storm will benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Earth Power is for type coverage, and Protect can help buy you time against exceptionally quick Pokemon.

How to Catch Diancie in Pokemon Go
Unfortunately it does not seem as if you can obtain a Diancie in Pokemon Go quite yet. While Niantic has recently released generation six Pokemon into the game, they have yet to release this mythical legendary Pokemon. Given its status and its starring roles in Pokemon media, it is likely that Diancie will be added soon. It is also likely that the developers will release a quest line giving players an encounter with Diancie as they have in the past.
Trivia
- Of all the Pokemon introduced in generation six, Diancie is the only generation six Pokemon that is capable of mega evolution.
- The inspiration for Diancie’s design likely comes from the carbuncle, a fairy-like creature that had a gem on its head. It is possibly also referring to a princess-cut diamond.
- The name Diancie is a combination of the words diamond, fancy, and ishi (Japanese for stone).

FAQ
Can Carbink turn into Diancie?
In regular gameplay, Carbink does not turn into Diancie despite the fact that in the Pokemon lore, the Pokedex states that a Diancie transforms from a Carbink. This is not an official evolution and Diancie is a standalone Pokemon. Most likely, this is due to Diancie’s mythical legendary status and would not have translated into gameplay very well.
Is Diancie Legendary?
Diancie is classified as a legendary Pokemon. It can only be encountered once per save file, it cannot be bred at a Pokemon daycare, and its catch rate fulfills the requirements of other legendary Pokemon. Not only is Diancie a legendary Pokemon, but it is also a mythical Pokemon, which means that it was only available through Nintendo sponsored events.
Where can I get Diancie?
As a mythical Pokemon, Diancie was released as part of a promotion for the release of Diancie - and the Cocoon of Destruction. Diancie was also offered as part of a promotion for the release of the Phantom Forces Pokemon TCG set. You may also be able to obtain your own Diancie through the use of the Global Trade System, that is part of many Pokemon games.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Jewel Pokemon.” Diancie has one of the most phenomenal statlines of any Pokemon, which is made even better thanks to its mega evolution. Not many legendaries received the 100 stat boost that mega evolutions brought to other Pokemon. This sets Diancie apart from other Pokemon as it is exceptionally powerful as well as defensive and so take any opportunity you have to get your hands on this exclusive Pokemon.
