Introduced in generation five, with the Pokemon Black and White games, Eelektross is a monotype electric Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Tynamo and will evolve from Eelektrik upon reaching the level threshold. Eelektross is classified as the “EleFish Pokemon” by the Pokedex, which indicates its electric and fishy design. This guide will showcase Eelektross’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Eelektross.

Eelektross

About Eelektross

As a generation five Pokemon, Eelektross first appeared in the Black and White season of the anime in the episode Battle for the Underground!. Eelektross is part of a three stage evolution, evolving from Eelektrik after a Thunder Stone is used and is the final evolution of Tynamo. Eelektross is also unique as it is one of the only electric type Pokemon with the ability Levitate. The Pokedex states that they will attack prey on the shore and drag them back into the ocean.

Appearance

Eelektross is a long, eel-like Pokemon that resembles a lamprey in real life. Most of Eelektross’s body is black with a yellow underbelly and it has two appendages that function as its arms. Each arm has spikes at their pads and Eelektross’s mouth is always visible with four pointed teeth that surround the edges. It is a very tall Pokemon at 6 feet and 11 inches, or 2.1 meters, tall.

Eelektross Appearance

Behavior

Many of Eelektross’s appearances in the anime are minor roles, so most of what we understand about it’s behavior comes from the Pokedex. It is described to be a predatory Pokemon and will use its fangs to shock its prey before eating them. They are also vaguely amphibious as they will attack anything on the shore and drag it back into the ocean.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Eelektross is a unique Pokemon as it is the only Pokemon in the entire franchise to have no type weakness naturally. Typically an electric type would be weak to ground type moves but Eelektross can only have Levitate as its ability and thus negating ground type damage. Despite this incredible type resilience, Eelektross is mildly weak due to its abysmal speed stat. While Eelektross is not weak to anything, it will almost always be attacking second. As an electric type Pokemon, Eelektross is resistant to flying, steel, and electric type moves.

Best Moveset

Despite Eelektross’s lack of a type weakness, it is very difficult to utilize in competitive gameplay. While its offensive stats are respectable, it has a hard time taking advantage of it thanks to the low speed stat. If you would like to see success with Eelektross in competitive play, consider an Assault Vest, as a held item, to ensure Eelektross can take a hit. You will want to run Volt Switch, Flamethrower, Giga Drain/Hidden Power Ice, and Knock Off/Thunderbolt. Volt Switch can give you an efficient switch attacker, Flamethrower can deal with many popular wall strategies, Giga Drain and Hidden Power Ice are for type coverage, and finally Knock Off and Thunderbolt can be switched depending on what your team is weaker to (held item coverage or water/flying type coverage).

How to Catch Eelektross in Pokemon Go

If you would like to obtain an Eelektross in Pokemon Go, the easiest way would be to obtain a Tynamo and eventually evolve it into Eelektross. Like most final evolutions, it is far easier to encounter its base evolution, as compared to the final evolution, in the wild. You can also hatch a Tynamo from 5 km eggs if you want to increase your chances. You will need 25 Tynamo candies in order to evolve into Eelektrik and another 100 candies plus a Unova Stone to evolve into Eelektross. Unfortunately, it does not seem as if Eelektross has appeared as a raid boss in the past and thus you will need to obtain a Tynamo through wild encounters or from hatching eggs.

FAQ

Does Eelektross have a weakness?

Normally, electric type Pokemon are weak to ground type moves. However, Eelektross can only have the ability Levitate and that negates the damage from ground type moves. This means that Eelektross cannot take super effective damage.

Is Eelektross a good Pokemon?

While Eelektross certainly makes a strong case for a good Pokemon, it falls short because of its very slow speed stat which means that it cannot make use of its decent statline. Having a powerful special and physical attack stat is often useless and you will want to prioritize one or the other. Unfortunately for this unique Pokemon, it has consistently been at the bottom of competitive brackets.

How do you kill Eelektross?

Eelektross is not particularly bulky. While its health pool is decent and its resistances can survive a hit, you will almost always go first against an Eelektross. Just make sure that you are not necessarily weak to the types that Eelektross can utilize (flying, ice and electric) and you can easily outlast an Eelektross.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “EleFish Pokemon”. Eelektross is an especially unique Pokemon as it is truly weak to no types in the entire game. If you can manage to buff its weak speed stat, you can utilize a truly powerful Pokemon. While its usability in competitive play is limited, you can have a lot of fun by investing in a Tynamo in casual play. Reserve a slot on your team for Eelektross if you want strong hitting, defensive typing Pokemon on your team.
