Appearance

Eelektrik is a primarily blue and yellow Pokemon that resembles an electric eel. Most of its body is blue but it has a cream colored underside. There are also yellow fins and colored splotches throughout Eelektrik’s body. It has a wide tail fin and a large circular mouth. Eelektrik seems to have four different sections of teeth that it sinks into its prey. Eelektrik is an average sized Pokemon at 3 feet and 11 inches, or 1.2 meters, tall.

Behavior

Eelektrik is a vicious carnivore and spends much of its time hunting for food. It is known to have a voracious appetite and it is capable of hunting efficiently. In the wild, Eelektrik will coil itself around its prey and electrocute it. After paralyzing its prey, it will drag its prey back to its dwelling. Eelektrik will typically be found in caves and in marine environments. The Pokedex mentions how Eelektrik will hunt for other Pokemon.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Eelektross is unique as a Pokemon with no type weaknesses, thanks to its ability Levitate. It could serve as a powerful defensive Pokemon, but its stat distribution seems to be geared for offense. Its attack stats are higher than its other stats but it has a slow speed.

As a monotype electric Pokemon, Eelektrik would take 2x damage from ground type moves but its Levitate ability instead makes it immune to ground. It is also resistant to flying, steel, and electric type moves. Eelektrik will take regular damage from all other types of moves.

Best Moveset

There is little reason to run Eelektrik in competitive play. It is better to consider utilizing Eelektross if you are interested in this Pokemon. Despite Eelektross’s lack of a type weakness, it is very difficult to utilize in competitive gameplay. While its offensive stats are respectable, it has a hard time taking advantage of it thanks to the low speed stat. If you would like to see success with Eelektross in competitive play, consider an Assault Vest, as a held item, to ensure Eelektross can take a hit.

You will want to run Volt Switch, Flamethrower, Giga Drain/Hidden Power Ice, and Knock Off/Thunderbolt. Volt Switch can give you an efficient switch attacker, Flamethrower can deal with many popular wall strategies, Giga Drain and Hidden Power Ice are for type coverage, and finally Knock Off and Thunderbolt can be switched depending on what your team is weaker to (held item coverage or water/flying type coverage).

How to Catch Eelektrik in Pokemon Go

If you would like to obtain an Eelektrik in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first obtain a Tynamo and eventually evolve it into Eelektrik. As a base evolution Pokemon, it is much more common to encounter than its evolutionary relatives. You can find one in the wild, at a boosted rate, near commercial areas, search near shopping districts, universities, residential areas, schools and other high powered areas.

Since Tynamo is the base evolution, you can also hatch it from 5 km eggs as well and it has been featured as a tier one raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. You will need 25 Eelektrik candies to evolve it into Eelektrik, and another 100 to evolve it into Eelektross. There are many different ways to obtain a Eelektrik, you will just need to take the first opportunity that comes your way.

Trivia

  1. Eelektrik and its evolution line are the only Pokemon in the franchise to have no type weaknesses.
  2. The inspiration for Eelektrik’s design is likely based on eels, specifically the electric eel.
  3. The name Eelektrik is a combination of the words eel and electric.

FAQ

Is Eelektrik a good Pokemon?

Eelektrik’s strongest selling point is how it has no type weaknesses. As a monotype electric Pokemon, it would normally take 2x damage from ground type moves, but it can only have the Levitate ability which nullifies ground type moves. Despite this, Eelektrik is a slow Pokemon, which can make it difficult to utilize in battle.

When should I evolve my Eelektrik?

Once your Eelektrik has learned all the moves you want it to learn, you can evolve it into an Eelektross. It is best to have Eelektrik learn the moves as soon as possible, as Eelektross cannot learn moves naturally by leveling up. After you are satisfied with your Eelektrik’s moveset, you should use a Thunder Stone to evolve it.

What is Eelektrik weak to?

Eelektrik, and its evolution line, are the only Pokemon in the franchise with no type weaknesses. Avoid using ground, flying, steel, or electric type moves. All other types of moves will deal regular damage to Eelektrik. Since Eelektrik is a slow Pokemon, you can easily outspeed it with an aggressive Pokemon.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “EleFish Pokemon”. Eelektrik is an especially unique Pokemon as it is truly weak to no types in the entire game. Once it evolves, you can utilize a truly powerful Pokemon. While its usability in competitive play is limited, you can have a lot of fun by investing in a Eelektrik in casual play. Reserve a slot on your team for Eelektrik to have a strong hitting, defensive typing Pokemon.
