Eiscue Pokémon

Last Modified Aug 10, 2021 04:26 GMT

Eiscue is a Pokémon of the Ice type that debuted in Generation VIII and its Ice Face Ability allows it to change forms, despite the fact that it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. Eiscue's multiple Ice Faces made their debut in "Captain Pikachu! Advance, Tairetsu!" episode. One of them became separated from the others by mistake, temporarily assuming its Noice Face shape a couple of times before returning to its original location by the end of the episode.

Appearance

Eiscue Appearance

Eiscue is a penguin-like Pokémon with a big light blue ice cube on its head and white flecks on the surface. On the front, it has two oval-shaped eyes and a beak, as well as a long, antennae-like hair coming out of the cube. Eiscue has two flippers and three toes on each of his yellow feet with a black and white body. Within the ice, its actual face is bright blue with two white eyes and it also has a white beak and two black eyebrows.

Behavior

Eiscue comes from very cold climates and can make ice by producing cold air from within its head to shield it from the heat. The ice, on the other hand, is not very durable and a hard impact might fracture it, causing it to create more ice. Eiscue are laid-back creatures who are frequently observed floating aimlessly in the water with only their ice-covered heads visible above the surface, occasionally washing up on faraway coastlines. It never panics or becomes agitated when it finds itself in a new land; instead, it adapts and moves on.

People love the silly, worried expression Eiscue shows when the ice on its head shatters. Eiscue's hair is connected to the surface of its brain, which then chills the air around it when it has something on its mind. The hair is also used to catch prey in the sea.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Since Eiscue is an Ice Type Pokemon, it’s weak against Fighting, Rock, Steel, and Fire-type moves. However, they are resistant against fellow Ice Types and are not immune to any types. Eiscue fits best on offensive teams that can break through its defensive answers although it's a beast against Physical attackers, Eiscue can't use its Ability's advantages against a Special attacker and will stay trapped in its sluggish Ice Face form.

Shiny Eiscue

Shiny Eiscue

Eiscue is normally one of the version-exclusive Pokemon only available in Pokemon Shield, but it will appear in Max Raids across both games throughout this event. You may also come across a Shiny Eiscue in five-star Max Raids, but its appearance rate is very low, so you'll need to be persistent and check as many Raids as you can if you're hoping to catch one. The Shiny Eiscue trades its normal blue ice blockhead for a purple one as well as a pink tint on its arms. In celebration of World Penguin Day, a new Max Raid Battle event was underway in Pokémon Sword and Shield featuring Eiscue and Shiny Eiscue until April 25 at 23:59 UTC. Make sure to look out for more events for a chance of an increased spawn rate of shiny Eiscue.

Best Moveset

Eiscue's unique Ice Face Ability and access to Belly Drum make it a dangerous late-game sweeper, albeit matchup dependent. After Eiscue uses Substitute and Belly Drum, Reversal is an 80-Base Power move that provides strong neutral coverage alongside its STAB Icicle Crash and allows it to take down Steel-type Pokemon it couldn't otherwise. Eiscue can use Substitute to shield itself from status and vengeance killing, as well as activate its Salac Berry after using Belly Drum, outrunning most of the unboosted metagame and even outrunning the fastest boosted Pokemon. Belly Drum brings Eiscue's otherwise mediocre Attack stat to ridiculous levels, making it vital to sweeping.

Trivia

  1. Eiscue shares its category with Piplup and Prinplup as they’re all known as the Penguin Pokémon.
  2. Eiscue can be seen as a parallel to Stonjourner, the former being exclusive to Shield while the latter is exclusive to Sword. Melony and Gordie, the version exclusive Gym Leaders of the Circhester Gym use the two in their teams.
  3. Due to a glitch, if Eiscue is hit by Rollout, the damage multiplier for it can also be applied to other moves. Eiscue shares this trait with Mimikyu.
  4. In the games, No Ice is read as "Noice". However, this may have been intentional, as No Ice can be read as Noice, which is an exaggerated form of "Nice".

Conclusion

Congratulations! You now know about Eiscue, which is based on a penguin with a block of ice on its head. It may also be based on the Great Auk, an extinct, flightless bird species that lived in and around the British Isles. They swam with their heads floating above the water, similarly to Eiscue. In the winter, their heads gained white feathers, resembling snow or growing ice. Eiscue may be derived from Eis (German for ice or ice cream) and ice cube.
