Entei Pokémon

Last Modified Jul 9, 2021 09:51 GMT

The legendary dogs of the Johto region are some of the most iconic Pokemon from the region and before it was Suicune at the helm, fire type Entei took center-stage with it dominating the movies and promotional art. And while it's been a long time since then, other than Suicune’s rise in popularity, Entei is still loved amongst the fanbase.

Appearance

While Entei is called a legendary dog, it takes most of its design cues from a lion but still bears similarities to a mastiff. It is covered in long, brown and cream colored fur with grey spikes sprouting from its back and between the spikes is what looks like billowing smoke. Its face has a yellow crest on its forehead and a red spiked mask, which sticks out from either side of the face.

Behavior

Entei are born from newly formed volcanoes and when an Entei roars, it can force a volcano to erupt violently. Entei is full of raging power like an unstoppable flow of magma and often runs across grasslands just to release this energy but when in battle, it is capable of releasing great blasts of flame that incinerates anything it touches.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Entei is a pure fire type so its type matchups should be familiar. It is strong against bug, steel, fire, grass, ice, and fairy type moves and takes only half damage from them. It is weak to ground, rock, and water type moves and takes double damage from them.

Shiny Entei

Shiny Entei is the rare, recolored version of Entei. Shiny Entei is very similar to its normal form and the few changes that it does have are very hard to even notice. The cream colored fur on its chest is now brown on Shiny Entei and its red spiked mask is replaced by a dark grey one.

Best Moveset for Entei

All out Offense: Entei’s incredible stats makes it an incredible damage dealer the moment it lands on the field. No need for setup moves, just some strong moves like Stone Edge and Sacred Fire as well as holding a Choice Band to boost its damage even further, which turns Entei into a simple sweeper.

How to Catch Entei in Pokemon Go

Entei behaves like other legendaries in Pokemon Go and can appear randomly as a raid boss. When defeated you are given the chance to capture the Pokemon. It's best to team up with friends and use strong water type Pokemon, like Mega Bastoise, in order to take it down.

FAQs

Is Entei a dog or cat?

While Entei, and the other two members of the trio it's a part of, is called a legendary dog, it takes design cues from other creatures. Specifically for Entei its design is similar to a lion.

What does Entei’s name mean?

Entei’s name is a romanization of its Japanese name. Its name is a combination of ‘enten,’ meaning ‘blazing heat,’ and ‘kōtei,’ which means ‘emperor.’ So the meaning of its name can be interpreted as ‘Emperor of Blazing Heat,’ which is a pretty cool name.

Conclusion

Of course, being a legendary, Entei is an incredibly powerful Pokemon. Its stats are very good and its moves can be devastating when used right. While it's not the most useful of the three dogs, it's definitely second best, only beaten out by Raikou because of its slightly better speed.
