Escavalier is a dual-type Bug/Steel Pokémon introduced in Generation V which evolves from Karrablast when traded for a Shelmet and that in turn evolves into Accelgor simultaneously. Neither evolves if at least one holds an Everstone during the trade. In the anime, Bianca owns an Escavalier, having traded her Shelmet for Professor Juniper's Karrablast.
After the evolution, Escavalier refused to obey Bianca, so they, along with Professor Juniper and her Accelgor, had a Tag Battle against Ash and his Boldore, and Cilan and his Crustle, so Escavalier would gain Bianca's trust. Bianca later used Escavalier in a battle against Cameron but it was defeated by Samurott.

Appearance
Escavalier is an insect-like Pokémon with a red horsehair crest on its head and a visor beneath it, which looks like the crest of a knight's helmet. Its slender black arms stretch from huge, circular metal ridges on its shoulders. The arms have red-striped protrusions on the tips that resemble jousting lances. Its face and chest are unarmored, but its lower body is hidden under a swirling gray shell with a crimson spike on the bottom, likely a Shelmet shell.
Behavior
Its body is completely protected by its strong armor and it flies around at breakneck speed with its lances piercing enemies. It is courageous and will take on any task, even if it is in danger. In the Galar area, Escavalier is a prominent Pokémon, with a renowned artwork depicting it dueling Sirfetch'd.
Strengths and Weaknesses
As a dual Bug/Steel-type Pokemon, it is very weak against Fire type moves and takes quadruple the normal damage against it. However, it is unaffected against Poison type moves and resistant against Normal, Bug, Steel, Grass, Psychic, Ice and Fairy type moves. It also offers a useful blend of offensive and defensive traits that makes it an excellent answer to common foes.
Escavalier is fantastic at luring in and crippling defensive staples but despite this, however, it struggles to successfully deal with its counterplay. Escavalier is also very reliant on its item for recovery, which makes item removal from the likes of Vileplume and Guzzlord problematic. Lastly, its poor Speed makes it easy for faster foes, especially those with Fire-type moves.
Best Moveset
Swords Dance | Iron Head |
Close Combat | Knock Off |
Close Combat provides necessary coverage, while Knock Off prevents Fire-types like from freely switching into Escavalier. It also appreciates the removal of Fire-types like Salazzle, Talonflame, and Arcanine so it can more freely wall break. Swords Dance sets are potent wall breakers that can easily dispatch physical walls whereas its specially defensive set provides teams with a sturdy answer to special attackers and Choice Specs. Iron Head picks up KOs more safely and hits targets like Bewear, Mismagius, and Florges that can take Megahorn.
How to catch Escavalier in Pokémon Go?
Escavalier is a Bug, Steel-type Pokémon from the Unova region. It evolves from Karrablast after being fed 200 candies or with no candy cost if traded. Karrablast can be found in farms, open fields, parks, playgrounds, and around the countryside. If your city has a few parks, check those out, but you might want to venture out of the town to locate them although you can also grab a Karrablast by hatching a 5km egg.
Trivia
- Despite Escavalier wearing the same armor as Shelmet, it is part Steel while Shelmet is only Bug Type.
- Similar to their pre-evolution, they have teeth, unlike real insects.
- Before Generation 6, Escavalier's cry sounded like Phione.
- Even though its Pokémon Black Pokédex entry says it flies around at high speeds, it only has a base speed stat of 20.
- In the anime, Bianca's Escavalier was incredibly fast, with it on par with Accelgor's speed.
