Introduced in generation three with the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games, Feebas is a monotype water Pokemon. It is very comparable to Magikarp as its base evolution does almost absolutely nothing while its final evolution is quite powerful. Feebas will eventually evolve into Milotic, which is again compared to Gyarados. While Feebas’s appearances in the anime are generally limited to the comedic effect of a fish out of water, its access to Milotic makes its existence prevalent. This guide will showcase Feebas’s appearances in the anime, its evolution line’s capabilities in battle as well as other general facts about Feebas.
About Feebas
Feebas have some unique conditions in order to evolve into Milotic. While Magikarp only needs to reach the level threshold of 20, Feebas’s conditions are much more specific. In generation three and four, you would need to raise Feebas’s beauty stat by feeding it Pokeblocks or Poffins. In the later generations you just need to trade your Feebas while it is holding a Prism Scale item. Its first appearance in the anime was as a minor role, where it appeared attached to Jessie’s hair when the team was washed ashore. Even the Pokedex states that its role is largely ignored and it is treated as a rather common river fish.

Appearance
Feebas is likely based on the largemouth bass in real life and has a brown body while it’s fins are jagged and shoddy. Feebas’s fins are gray and it has a black circle around both of its eyes. It is not known to be the prettiest Pokemon but this design is intentional. Feebas almost perfectly represents the classic story of the Ugly Duckling.
Behavior
As a rather common river fish, it is often depicted as a background prop. Its role is almost entirely to provide ambience in the world of Pokemon as a fish aimlessly swimming about. Feebas is known to be quite sturdy in Pokemon lore as it is capable of surviving in very little water. While its appearance normally sees many ignore it, Feebas’ vitality made it sought after by scholars of the Pokemon universe.
Strengths and Weaknesses
There is almost nothing to mention in regards to Feebas’s strengths. It does have a rather surprising amount of base speed but unfortunately, its movepool is almost exclusively limited to Tackle and Flail. On top of this its base stats are among some of the lowest in the entire game. As a monotype water Pokemon, it is only weak to grass and electric type moves but it is not capable of taking advantage of this fact.
Shiny Feebas
Even in its Shiny form, Shiny Feebas maintains its rather shoddy appearance. The brown on Feebas is replaced by a purple color palette but the fins, eyes, and lips of Shiny Feebas all remain the same color. While it is not the most impressive shiny Pokemon, it evolves into Milotic, making Shiny Feebas quite desirable. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Feebas gains a starry animation upon entering battle.
Evolving Feebas
Evolving Feebas has always been tough but things changed between generation 3-4 and generations 5. In generations three and four you will need to raise Feebas’s beauty stat and then level it up in order to get Milotic. To raise its beauty stat you will need to feed it Pokeblocks and Poffins. With the later generations, you just need to trade your Feebas while it is holding a Prism Scale.
Best Moveset
There is almost nothing to discuss about Feebas’s best moves, especially as it can only access up to three moves naturally. Instead, it is best to consider Milotic’s capabilities in battle, especially in a competitive environment. Milotic’s best moves are the ones that complement its natural bulkiness and thus try running Scald, Ice Beam, Haze, and Recover to see the most success in battle. Scald will provide a chance to burn while benefiting from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Ice Beam exists for type coverage, Haze will remove any status inflicting moves, and Recover will help Milotic’s natural bulkiness matter more.

How to Catch Feebas in Pokemon Go
If you want to obtain a Feebas for yourself in Pokemon Go, you will have the best odds of finding them in ocean environments like docks or harbors. They can spawn anywhere you have seen water type Pokemon spawn, so even in landlocked areas, you can still get a Feebas to spawn albeit rarely. It has also appeared as a tier one and tier two raid boss in the past so keep your eyes peeled for nearby gym raids. You can also hatch a Feebas from 5 km eggs. In order to evolve your Feebas into Milotic you will need 100 candies and also walk 20 km with Feebas as your buddy in order to unlock the evolution.

FAQ
Is Feebas Rare in Pokemon Go?
Feebas are relatively rare as their spawn are rather limited. Luckily you can also find Feebas in tier one and tier two raids in Pokemon Go. If you cannot find a Feebas in the wild or in Pokemon Gym raids, you can always try and hatch a Feebas from 5 km eggs.
How do I evolve Feebas into Milotic?
This answer changes depending on which generation you are playing on. In generations three and four, you will need to feed your Feebas Pokeblocks, or Poffins, in order to raise its beauty stat. Once it is nearly maxed, the very next time it levels up your Feebas will evolve into Milotic. In the later generations, you just need to trade your Feebas while it is holding a Prism Scale.
Is Feebas better than Magikarp?
This answer is largely based more on whether Milotic is better than Gyarados. Neither Feebas or Magikarp are worth discussing in terms of battle capability. Both Gyarados and Milotic are often near the middle of competitive tier lists. They have even been on world championship teams in the past. The answer will depend on whether you need a bulkier Pokemon in Milotic or a more offensive Pokemon with Gyarados.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this fish Pokemon. While there is nothing about Feebas to write home about, its final evolution Milotic is a very desirable Pokemon. Just like Gyarados in the first generation, you put up with Feebas in order to gain access to Milotic. Even though Feebas’s appearances in the anime are usually for comedic or background effect, it will remain a memorable Pokemon throughout the franchise’s history.
