All About Froslass Pokémon

Last Modified Jun 24, 2021 07:54 GMT

Introduced in generation four with the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games, Froslass is dual-type ice and ghost Pokemon. Froslass can evolve from a female Snorunt when a Dawn Stone is used on the Snorunt. If the Snorunt is leveled to 42 instead, it will evolve into a Glalie. Since Froslass can only evolve from female Snorunts, you can only ever find a female Froslass. Like most ghost Pokemon, the story behind Froslass is somewhat tragic. This guide will showcase Froslass’s appearances in the anime, its capabilities in battle, as well as other general facts about Froslass.

About Froslass

A dual-type ice ghost Pokemon, Froslass first made an appearance on television with the animated short Pikachu’s Ice Adventure while making its main series debut in the Diamond and Pearl season with the episode The Drifting Snorunt!. Froslass is unique in terms of evolution as it requires a female Snorunt and a Dawn Stone to be used. If this condition is ignored, the snorunt will evolve into a Glalie. The Pokedex states that Froslass’s origins begin with a woman who was lost on a mountain and was reborn into Froslass.

Appearance of Froslass

Froslass is a humanoid-like Pokemon and this fits alongside her Pokedex description. Froslass’s head has two ice spikes growing out on her forehead, and it appears to be wearing a white mask. This mask covers her purple head, and a white and red robe can be seen extending from her head. Two ribbon-like arms are also extending from the bottom of the Pokemon’s head. There is also a sash near Froslass’s waist that is tied into a bow. Froslass’s eyes are composed of blue eyes and yellow sclera.

Appearance of Froslass

Behavior of Froslass

Froslass has a coy attitude and is oftentimes seen toying with her victims. The Pokedex states that it enjoys preying on men who wander into her territory, and she will save her favorites as decorations. The Pokemon universe folklore states that Froslass comes to be when a woman’s regrets form into Froslass. Her freezing breath makes her dangerous and she is even known to knock on human doors during a blizzard.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Froslass is a fast Pokemon with a base 110 stat total in speed. As an ice-type representative, she is quite frail and her defensive stats are not that high. In addition to her low defenses, her attack stats are not too impressive either. The biggest problem with encountering Froslass is oftentimes she will set up hail, activating her snow cloak ability. Try to end the battle quickly against Froslass by connecting high-accuracy rock, ghost, steel, fire, or dark type moves.

Shiny Froslass

Shiny Froslass replaces the red coloring in her kimono with bright pink. Not much else changes between regular Froslass and Shiny Froslass. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Froslass will have a starry animation play upon entering battle. The colors in Shiny Froslass all remain similar to her regular form. Even Shiny Froslass’s eyes remain the same color.

Mega Froslass

Mega Froslass does not exist in the mainline games of Pokemon. She did not receive a mega evolution in generation six with Pokemon X and Y. It is not likely that Mega Froslass will be introduced in the game any time soon as the developers have been moving away from mega evolutions. Some fan games have a unique sprite and base stat total with Mega Froslass, but Mega Froslass does not exist in any of the Nintendo releases of the game.

Best Moveset

In competitive battle, Froslass is used as a disabler. With the ability of Cursed Body and moves like Spikes, Taunt, Icy Wind, and Destiny Bond, your opponent will need to think carefully about their attacks before committing to anything. Spikes provide a hazard that can easily scale out of control, Taunt will ensure that no shenanigans can come from your opponent's side, Icy Wind can lower your opponents speed while benefiting from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), and Destiny Bond will ensure that Froslass at least gets one of your opponent’s Pokemon. For a held item, it is best to use Focus Sash to ensure that Froslass does not get knocked out too quickly.

How to Catch Froslass in Pokemon Go

In order to get a Froslass yourself, you will want to locate Snorunts in the wild. In order to unlock Froslass, you will need a Sinnoh Stone that can be found from spinning Pokestops or successfully completing Pokemon Raids. Once you have obtained a Sinnoh Stone, you can evolve a female Snorunt into a Froslass with 100 Snorunt candies and a Sinnoh Stone. Froslass does not spawn naturally in the wild, so you will need to collect as many Snorunts as you can to get the candies you need. Alternatively, you could walk around with Snorunt set as your buddy to obtain more candies.

Trivia

  1. Out of all the Pokemon in the game, Froslass is the only Pokemon with the typing Ice and Ghost.
  2. The name Froslass is a portmanteau of the words frost and lass.
  3. Due to name censors on the Global Trade System, Froslass could not be traded unless it was nicknamed something else.

FAQs

Q. Is Froslass the only Ice Ghost Pokemon?

Froslass is the only Pokemon in all of the games to have the dual typing of Ice and Ghost. Even Glalie or Mega Glalie, which evolves from the same Pokemon, does not have the benefit of the Ghost typing. This gives Froslass some niche interest, but as ice and ghost are typically frail, Froslass would need some help in order to make use of either typing.

Q. How do you evolve Glalie into Froslass?

You cannot evolve Glalie into Froslass. You need to evolve a female Snorunt into Froslass with a Dawn Stone. If you already have a Glalie it is too late to obtain a Froslass from it. Instead, you will have to catch another Snorunt, ensure that it is female, and use a Dawn Stone on it to obtain a Froslass.

Q. Is Froslass better than Glalie?

Generally speaking, Froslass is better than Glalie. The dual typing gives access to more STAB moves and Froslass’s stats are better distributed throughout its statline. However, Mega Glalie is more powerful than regular Froslass as the extra 100 stat boost to its base stats makes it much more impressive in battle.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this snow land Pokemon. Froslass is a unique Pokemon in the franchise as it is the only Pokemon to sport the dual typing of ice and ghost. While particularly frail, Froslass can be menacing in casual to competitive play with the right build. Try not to underestimate this Pokemon otherwise you may end up as a decoration in her icy cave.
