Introduced in generation five with the Pokemon Black and White games, Garbodor is a monotype poison Pokemon. It evolves from Trubbish starting at level 36 and even has its own gigantamax form. The Pokedex aptly labels Garbodor as the trash heap Pokemon and that is perfectly suited as Garbodor’s design is literally a pile of trash that has accumulated over the years. This Pokemon has appeared a number of times throughout the anime despite its relatively new status. This guide will showcase Garbodor’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Garbodor.
About Garbodor
Garbodor is a Pokemon that resembles a large heap of trash that manifests into a Pokemon. This poison type Pokemon evolves from Trubbish and is the final evolution of the line. It does have a unique gigantamax form but that is not technically something it evolves into. In terms of Pokemon media, it has featured in many episodes of the Black and White season even leading up to the Sword and Shield season. It first appeared in the episode Scraggy and the Demanding Gothita!. The Pokedex states that Garbodor can shoot poisonous liquid and the foul smelling gas from its breath can finish off its opponents.

Appearance
Garbodor’s epithet is the trash heap Pokemon and it resembles just that. It appears to be a collection of trash or a trash bag that has burst. Its body is mostly brown with some pink and blue lumps scattered throughout its body. A bipedal Pokemon, it stands on two stubby feet and its arms appear to be made of rebar with two lumps of trash sticking out of its head, that resemble hair or ears.
Behavior
As a Pokemon made of trash, it is capable of spewing poisonous gas and shooting liquid from its left hand. Its right hand is much larger and it will use that to pick up opponents and belch foul smelling gas onto them. Garbodor is also known to eat trash which it then converts into poison. This behavior leads to the theory that Garbodor is more like a landfill than an animated pile of trash.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Garbodor does not have the most impressive statline. The highest base stat is in its physical attack which is relatively mediocre. Instead of being an offensive sweeper, Garbodor is best utilized as a disabler and status inflictor. It does not have much in terms of bulkiness or speed and its stat distribution makes it very subpar. To get through a Garbodor, using any ground or psychic type moves will likely knock out a Garbodor with ease. As a monotype poison Pokemon it resists fighting, poison, bug, grass, and fairy type moves.
Gigantamax Garbodor
Gigantamax (Gmax) Garbodor gains a different appearance than regular Garbodor. A Gmax Garbodor is much larger, the smoke/stink clouds around it become even more gaseous and several discarded toys make up the majority of its body. You can even see a Masterball embedded in the back of Gmax Garbodor’s body. Gmax Garbodor also has an exclusive G-Max move, G-Max Malodor, which can poison all the Pokemon on the opposing side of the field.
Shiny Garbodor
For Shiny Garbodor, the ripped and spilling parts of its body are changed from brown to blue while the lumps in its body are changed from pink and blue to yellow and orange. The rest of Shiny Garbodor’s body changes from brown to gray with it not the most striking shiny design. Furthermore, considering Garbodor’s lack of popularity, it is not exactly the most desirable shiny Pokemon. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Garbodor gains a starry animation upon entering battle.
Best Moveset
Garbodor has not made much of an impact in competitive play. Its access to the ability Aftermath makes it effective at revenge killing opposing Pokemon after inflicting some status effects but its primary role is in disabling your opponent’s team. To have the best success with Garbodor on your team consider running Gunk Shot, Stomping Tantrum, Spikes and Toxic/Corrosive Gas. Gunk Shot will function as Garbodor’s damaging move while also benefiting from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Stomping Tantrum can act as a win condition after you have enough Spikes set up, the damage from Spikes can add up quickly and Toxic/Corrosive Gas are interchangeable depending on if you need inevitability with Toxic or to remove troublesome items from your opponents with Corrosive Gas.

How to Catch Garbodor in Pokemon Go
If you would like to obtain a Garbodor in Pokemon Go, like most evolved Pokemon, your best bet will be to get a Trubbish and evolve it into Garbodor. While Garbodor does appear in Pokemon Gym Raids, it is a tier four boss and could require some additional help in order to beat it. You can also find Trubbish in tier one raid battles if you cannot get enough players for a tier four raid battle. Both Trubbish and Garbodor are more likely to spawn in marshes and wetlands as poison type Pokemon. You will need 50 Trubbish candies in order to evolve your Trubbish into a Garbodor.

- The name Garbodor is a portmanteau of the words garbage and odor.
FAQ
What Types are good Against Garbodor?
Garbodor is weak to ground and psychic type moves. It will resist fighting poison, bug, grass, and fairy type moves while taking regular damage from the rest of the types in the Pokemon games. Garbodor does not gain a type upon evolving and it remains a monotype poison Pokemon. You can apply similar tactics to its pre-evolution as well.
What is the Evolution of Garbodor?
Garbodor does evolve into any other Pokemon. It does have a unique gigantamax form but that is not technically an evolution. Garbodor will evolve from Trubbish when you reach the level threshold of 36 and you do not need to do anything special. Garbodor is not known to evolve into any other Pokemon.
Is Garbodor a good Pokemon?
It fulfills a niche of setting up spikes, disabling your opponents and it’s access to the Aftermath ability, means that it can seriously harm your opponent’s Pokemon. But even then, it is not a particularly powerful Pokemon with it outclassed by many other supporting Pokemon. There is not much about Garbodor that cannot be recreated by another Pokemon.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this trash heap Pokemon. While Garbador has not had the biggest impact on competitive play, it is interesting that it is the only Pokemon that has gained a unique gigantamax form from generation five. Perhaps it is more of a statement from the developers than it was intended to make waves in the general play of the games. Even though Garbodor may not be the most powerful Pokemon, it brings to mind some important themes in our world that are easily translated from the franchise.
