Appearance of Golem
Golem is effectively just a rock with arms. It’s similar to its pre-evolutions but its arms and head look a bit more organic, having a less rocky shape and a brown color rather than blending into its rocky body.
Behavior of Golem
Golem is an incredibly sturdy Pokemon, being known to withstand dynamite blasts with its rocky shell. This shell doesn’t stay forever though as Golem do shed their shells once a year. It tends to travel not by walking by but curling up and rolling.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Golem is strong against the normal, flying, rock, and fire-type moves so it takes half damage from them. It takes even less damage from poison moves, taking only one-fourth damage and is completely immune to electric type moves. Unfortunately, it is also weak to a large array of types. Golem takes double damage from fighting, ground, steel, and ice type moves and takes quadruple damage from water and grass type moves.
Shiny Golem
Getting a Shiny Golem will definitely make you feel special. Shiny Golem has its rough, dark grey exterior replaced with brilliant gold color. With a Shiny Golem, not only do you get the ego boost of having a shiny, to begin with, but you have a solid gold rock to battle your opponents with.
Alolan Golem
Like many Generation 1 Pokemon, Golem received a special Alolan form in Pokemon Sun and Moon. This Alolan Golem is interesting as it changes its typing to be rock/electric. Alolan Golem is also redesigned to look a bit more like an electric type. An Alolan Golem has two large rocks jutting out from the top of it that each glow with yellow electricity. Alolan Golem also features small patches of spiked, black fur on its body and head.
Shiny Alolan Golem
Similar to a normal Shiny Golem, the Shiny Alolan Golem has given its rocky shell a makeover. With its new gold color, Shiny Alolan Golem looks even more like its newly gained electric type. Shiny Alolan Golem even matches the yellow electric accents on itself now and will surely be a standout gem on your team.
Best Moveset for Golem
Offensive Sturdy: With Golems high attack and defense, it's the perfect choice for a bulky sweeper. It can hit hard and with the Sturdy ability, it can take more hits than most Pokemon, even from super-effective moves.
Stone Edge | Earthquake |
Sucker Punch | Protect |
How to Catch Golem in Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go foregoes Golem’s trade exclusivity and instead only requires the player to give a Graveler 100 Geodude candy. Geodude can be found in rocky areas with other rock and ground types and once you have 125 Geodude candy, you can evolve one all the way up to being a Golem.
Trivia
The Golem evolutionary line shares many similarities to the Gigalith evolutionary line, with each learning similar moves as well as evolving only through trading.
Alolan Golem is the only Pokemon with dual rock/electric typing.
In the Generation 1 games, Golem is never seen unless the player is traded a Graveler. It never appears in the party of an opponent trainer.
FAQs
Q. What does Golem evolve into?
Golem is the last in its evolutionary line but it evolves from Graveler after being traded. Alolan Golem is the same, evolving from an Alolan Graveler after being traded.
Q. Does Golem learn earthquakes?
Golem can learn Earthquake in every game it appears in, from TMs in mainline games and as its charged move in Pokemon Go.
Q. Is Golem a Legendary Pokemon?
Golem is not a legendary Pokemon or even pseudo legendary. It's often confused with the Legendary Pokemon ‘the Golem Trio’ which consists of Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.
Conclusion
Golem is a hard-to-get Pokemon but its incredibly high attack and defense can make it worth the effort. And with Alolan Golem having such a unique typing, either of these hunk of rock can make a great pick for many kinds of teams.
