A pseudo-legendary Pokemon introduced in generation six, Goodra is a dragon-type Pokemon. A rather unique Pokemon as it is the final evolution of Goomy and it has the requirement of leveling up in the rain in order to evolve. A very bulky Pokemon with a good range in stats, Goodra is a good addition to any team. Its evolution line had quite a few appearances in the main anime as Ash had captured a Goomy that eventually evolved into Goodra. This guide will showcase Goodra’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Goodra.
About Goodra
This slimy dragon made quite a few appearances throughout the mainline anime series as Ash had captured its base evolution form in A Slippery Encounter!. Introduced in generation six with Pokemon X and Y, it is a relatively newer Pokemon. The final form of Goomy, it has the unique condition of requiring the trainer to be in rain, or in fog for later generations, in order for it to evolve into its final form. The rain has to be an environmental effect in the overworld, using the move Rain Dance will not evolve your Sliggoo into Goodra. Goodra is a friendly Pokemon that loves the company of its trainer.

Appearance of Goodra
Goodra is a slimy dragon Pokemon that stands on two legs. It is 6 feet and 7 inches tall, or 2 meters, and it has a fairly bulky build. Its body is primarily pink and purple, with a long, thick tail stretching from its base. Bits of slime can be seen dripping from Goodra from its arms and from its chin. There are two long antennae at the top of Goodra’s head. Its eyes are bright green and it has green spots along its cheeks and on its tail.
Behavior of Goodra
A very friendly dragon type, Goodra hates to be lonely. While it is quite formidable in battle, the Pokedex states that it is amazingly friendly, and hates to be alone. However, within the same vein, the Pokedex also states that it can throw a punch equivalent to the force of a hundred pro boxers. Despite its relatively friendly and meek nature, this Pokemon will stand up for its friends and fight its heart out. Its lore is likely to sustain its evolution method of requiring rain, as it will cry gooey tears if it is left alone for too long.
Strengths and Weaknesses
As a pseudo-legendary, its statline is quite impressive. It has one of the highest special defense stats of any Pokemon, and its attack stats are respectable. Goodra’s lowest stat is defense, but it can still hold its own with its decent health pool. Nevertheless, in order to get through a Goodra, you will want physical attacking ice, dragon, or fairy type move for 2x effectiveness. Goodra also has a decent selection of abilities to choose from, with gooey being used for slowing down opponents, hydration to prevent any status effects in the rain, and sap sipper completely countering any grass offensive moves.
Shiny Goodra
Shiny Goodra becomes a golden yellow color with a peach-colored belly. The goo that drips off of Shiny Goodra becomes pink, and the ovals in its body become purple. Shiny Goodra’s eyes change color from bright green to blue. A rather striking shiny palette color swap, as almost no color stays the same from regular Goodra to Shiny Goodra. This shiny color swap is seen throughout Goodra’s entire evolution line. As with all shiny Pokemon, Goodra gains a starry entrance effect when entering battle.
Best Moveset for Goodra
To have the best success with Goodra in competitive formats, you will want to use Goodra offensively. It is placed rather low in competitive brackets as its speed is rather low and it is often outclassed by other sweepers. However, if you need a bulky special wall that can dish out damage, Goodra is a fantastic choice. For a held item, you will want choice specs to take advantage of its high special attack. Then pick between Draco Meteor, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, and Sludge Bomb for type coverage. Draco Meteor is the only move that can benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) with this lineup, but Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, and Sludge Bomb are to be picked from depending on what your opponent brings.

How to Catch Goodra in Pokemon Go
Goodra’s evolution line was recently added in Pokemon Go. In order to get a Goodra, you will have the best odds of trying to find a Goomy in windy weather and eventually evolving it into Goodra. As Goodra has special conditions to evolve in the main games, you will have to evolve your Sliggoo with a rainy lure module available in the Pokemon Store. In addition to this lure module, you will need to have 100 candies to evolve your Sliggoo into Goodra. While Goodra has not been available in raid rotations yet, it is likely to come into the rotation soon considering its pseudo-legendary status.

FAQs
Q. Is Goodra the weakest Dragon-Type?
It is hard to pin down the weakest dragon type, but it is not likely that Goodra is the weakest. Most likely that title would go to Flygon or Altaria, as there are not many bad dragon types to pick from. Goodra is fairly weak in comparison to the strongest dragon types that are available, but it fulfills a different niche than other dragon types.
Q. Is Goodra a Legendary Pokemon?
Goodra is a pseudo-legendary Pokemon. So it is not quite a legendary Pokemon, but it fulfills the stat requirement as well as the experience requirement for it to reach level 100 to be considered a pseudo-legendary. The important distinction here is that pseudo-legendaries can be bred at a Pokemon daycare as well as the fact that pseudo-legendaries are part of a three evolution line.
Q. Is Goodra good Competitively?
In its bracket it is competitive, but unfortunately, that bracket is NU (Never Used) at worst and UU (Under Used) at best depending on which generation of competitive Pokemon you are playing. It is simply outclassed by many other Pokemon with its role, however, a bulky physical attacker can wreak havoc on the correct team. Try to see where the competitive Pokemon meta is currently to see if Goodra is the right answer.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this slimy dragon-type Pokemon. Goodra is a different take on dragon-type Pokemon and it is good to see different designs coming out of the franchise even decades later. In both battle and appearance, Goodra takes a different approach than many other dragons we have seen in the past. While it may not have made the biggest impact on competitive formats, any casual player would be happy to have a Goodra on their team.
