About Gothita

As a generation five Pokemon, Gothita made its first appearance in the Black and White season of the anime. Gothita, alongside its trainer Christie, played a minor role in this episode as a companion to Ash. It is part of a three stage evolution and evolves into Gothorita at level 32, and subsequently Gothitelle at level 41. The Pokedex states that they are prone to staring at both trainers and Pokemon.

Appearance

Gothita is a small, bipedal, humanoid-like Pokemon with a purple face and it appears to be wearing a black and white dress. There are white ribbons and bows all over Gothita’s body and it also has two blue eyes and a pair of prominent red lips. It is a very small Pokemon at only 1 foot and 4 inches, or 0.4 meters, tall. The design around Gothita is likely inspired by gothic lolita fashion which rose to popularity around 2010.

Gothita Appearance

Behavior

Gothita spends much of its time living up to its epithet, in other words, staying fixated on a person or Pokemon. Even when Gothita is in battle, it can become so obsessed that it does not even notice attacks. It is assumed that Gothita can see something in other people and Pokemon that others cannot, which supports its psychic typing.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As a base evolution, Gothita does not hold many strengths but it does have a decent special defense stat that only gets better through evolution. It can also have the ability Shadow Tag, which can help you catch roaming legendary Pokemon or prevent your opponent from switching. Gothita is not the most proficient battler, but it has many utility options available. As a monotype psychic Pokemon, Gothita is 2x weak to bug, ghost, and dark type moves. It is not immune to any type, but is resistant to fighting and psychic type moves.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, Gothita’s usability is strictly limited to LC (Little Cup) brackets where every Pokemon must be their base evolution. In this bracket of play, Gothita can keep your opponent’s Pokemon trapped in battle thanks to the ability Shadow Tag. Consider running Psychic, Thunderbolt/Hidden Power Fire, Energy Ball, and Trick to hinder your opponents. Psychic will benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and function as Gothita’s main source of damage. Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Fire are interchangeable depending on which type is more threatening to your team, while Energy Ball is for type coverage. Finally, Trick is used in conjunction with Choice Scarf to lock your opponents out of their moveset.

As a base evolution, it is fairly common to encounter in the wild but if you would like to increase your chances, look for Gothita at night. You can also hatch 2 km eggs if you want to try your luck this way. Of course, you can also find Gothita in tier one or tier two Pokemon Gym raids. You will need 25 Gothita candies in order to evolve into Gothorita and another 100 to evolve into Gothitelle.

FAQ

What is Gothita?

Gothita is a humanoid Pokemon that resembles gothic lolita fashion. Throughout Gothita’s evolution line, its dress appears to become much more Victorian and intricate. Gothita is classified as the “Fixation Pokemon” due to its tendency to stare and be obsessed with Pokemon and/or people.

Is Gothita a good Pokemon?

For a base evolution, Gothita does offer quite a bit of unique strategy. While its base stats are not stellar, it does have the ability Shadow Tag and can learn a large range of moves to help you disable your opponent’s Pokemon. As Gothita evolves, it becomes much bulkier and can manage most of the special attacking Pokemon in the game.

Is Gothita a rare Pokemon?

In the mainline games, Gothita actually has a higher spawn rate than other Pokemon that you can encounter. You do not even need to wait for rustling grass and you can encounter a Lolita in the wild without any special conditions. Gothita is a relatively common Pokemon.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Fixation Pokemon”. While Gothita’s evolution line did not have the biggest impact on competitive play, it is a powerful Pokemon in its own right. This evolution line is more built towards taking hits than dishing them out. However, it is a resilient Pokemon with good defensive typing that can help buy you time. Reserve a slot for Gothita on your team if you want a Pokemon that can survive hits.
