Pokemon GO's 2024 World Championship Pikachu is the latest costumed Pokemon to arrive in Niantic's mobile title. The Pocket Monster will be available to catch from 10:00 am on August 16, 2024, to 8:00 pm on August 20, 2024 (local time). On top of being able to catch this costumed Pikachu multiple ways, you can also find its shiny variation as well if you're lucky.
With that in mind, it doesn't hurt to examine how to get this new 2024 World Championships Pikachu in Pokemon GO during the World Championships Celebration event on August 16-20.

After its release on August 16, 2024, the 2024 World Championships Pikachu will only be available during the 2024 World Championships Celebration event that concludes on August 20. However, as previously noted, there are multiple ways to encounter and catch this snorkel and wetsuit-wearing Pikachu, and all of the confirmed methods can be found below:
- Field Research Task Rewards
- 1-Star Raids
- Trade
Field Research Task Rewards
Throughout the 2024 World Championships Celebration event, you can spin the photo discs of any Pokestops you come across to obtain Field Research Tasks. By completing these tasks, you have the opportunity to encounter the 2024 World Championships Pikachu and catch it. These research tasks can be repeated often to encounter this costumed Pikachu several times.
1-Star Raids
In addition to being found as a Field Research Task reward, the 2024 World Championships Pikachu will also be appearing in gyms as a 1-star raid boss throughout this Pokemon GO event. By using Ground-type counters to exploit this Pikachu's weakness in raids, you can defeat the 2024 World Championships Pikachu and capture it multiple times if you so choose.
It goes without saying that this will require plenty of raid passes, so it may not be a bad idea to prepare ahead of time and ensure you've stocked up on passes so you can tackle this raid multiple times if needed. Fortunately, countering and beating this raid boss is a pretty simple job and can even be accomplished solo, so repeat raids shouldn't be too difficult.
Trade
In the event that you haven't managed to catch the 2024 World Championships Pikachu you were hoping for during the celebration event, there's always the option of trading for the event's themed Pikachu instead. As a regular costumed Pokemon, this Pikachu won't cost much to trade for, and other trainers may have a few extra individuals (or perhaps even a few shinies) they're willing to part with.
How to get Shiny 2024 World Championships Pikachu in Pokemon GO
All of the methods outlined above can result in obtaining a Shiny 2024 World Championships Pikachu in Pokemon GO, so you'll need to rely on them heavily for a chance to find a shiny. As a relatively ordinary Pokemon that happens to be wearing a costume, this Pikachu's shiny appearance rate is likely somewhere around 0.2%, making it a tough one to find.
However, it's possible that Niantic will boost this base shiny rate during the 2024 World Championships Celebration. Still, you'll need to complete plenty of Field Research and raids to spot this shiny. If all else fails, you may be able to find a fellow Pokemon GO trainer with multiple shinies who is willing to trade one away for a reasonable offer.
